But he did not know how to make the old man come to his senses.
The answers he wanted to know were all on this old man.

His knowledge of spells was complex, but they generally fell into three categories.
Demon, Buddhist, and Taoist.
Let's not even consider demon.
As for Taoist spells, they were the most malleable, but Taoism was too rigid and unsuitable for dispelling these things. If he wanted to destroy the gray energy, Taoist spells would be appropriate, but by forcefully killing it, he might also destroy the old man alongside it.
