(Typed up the characters last night and realized I couldn't get online at the hotel. I figured it out this morning and hurried to post...)
I felt somewhat helpless. Why did this kind of issue still require a discussion with the old man? I didn't owe them anything; after all, it was just a matter of asking for a hundred steamed buns. Surely their family wouldn't be so stingy. A hundred steamed buns couldn't possibly compare to a human life.
"Uncle Master?" I wanted to hear Uncle Master's opinion, so I turned directly to him.
"Wait and see…" Uncle Master gave me a straight answer with just four words.
Alright, wait and see, but how exactly should I observe? Surely he isn't suggesting that I just keep waiting indefinitely? If Grandpa Qian has already gone to sleep, won't I have to stay another night? And if there's something to attend to tomorrow, does that mean I'll have to stay yet another day?
