But as for the Fox Immortal, I had only heard of them; as to seeing one in real life, that I had not yet experienced. Driven by curiosity, I cautiously made my way toward the large tree.
The shadow nestled in the tree appeared to be sleeping, paying no heed to my approach, which suited me just fine. I stood a little closer, took a few quick looks, and then planned to be on my way.
However, when I drew near the tree, I discovered the shadow was actually a man. After all, a woman's feet are never that large, and surely not even for a Fox Immortal.
"Damn, I thought it was a Fox Immortal, but it's just a man. What a letdown," I muttered under my breath.
What I didn't expect was for my whispered mutterings to startle the person in the tree.
"Who says a Fox Immortal can't be male?" I have to say, the man up in the tree had really good hearing; even my quiet mutter was picked up by his ears.
