The night was dark and endless.
The cold moon hung in the sky as it started to drizzle. Raindrops splattered against the glass window, the curtain half-drawn, blurring the view inside.
The sound of the rain concealed everything else.
...
The sky was beginning to lighten.
Jiang Ruan woke up only to find the room dark.
She shifted her back, wincing in pain and stiffness.
She took a deep breath and looked to her side, only to find that the man was gone.
The bedding next to her was ice-cold—it seemed like he had been up for a while.
"Beast, beast, beast."
Jiang Ruan muttered curses under her breath.
Then she struggled to sit up, checking the time. It was only just past seven in the morning. She had gone to bed late and despite her exhaustion, she found it impossible to go back to sleep.
But her mind felt unusually clear.
She had been changed into a clean set of pajamas, most likely by him.
Barefoot, she walked out of the room.
The sky outside was overcast.
