Inside the second branch of the family, the children were still asleep. Lady Fang rose quietly to prepare breakfast. Just as she had prepared the cornmeal batter and was about to chop some cabbage to fry with salted vegetables, she heard a knock at the door and went out to open it in confusion.
"Is this the Pei Qin household? I'm Sun Tiezhu!" Without seeing Sister Peiqin and her brothers, Sun Tiezhu asked Lady Fang to confirm.
Lady Fang had not met him before, but she knew of him and quickly nodded her head, "Yes! Yes!" Seeing him carrying the meat and pastries and coming over so early in the morning made her even more bewildered. She glanced back and saw San Ya getting up, so she told her to go wake up Pei Qin and opened the door to let Sun Tiezhu in.
Having been referred to as Auntie by Sun Tiezhu as he entered, and seeing that they only occupied two rooms partitioned off from the front yard, Lady Fang was filled with questions.
