An Lan walked out of the room and headed towards the restaurant of the hot spring resort. Reaching the restaurant required crossing a courtyard—during the night, the quiet and slightly damp space echoed with the crisp chirping of insects.
That's when an especially noticeable crackling sound came from behind her.
It was as if someone had stepped on and broken a dry twig.
An Lan's heart skipped a beat, and as a cold breeze caressed her face, a shiver went down her spine, causing goosebumps to form on her arms. She didn't dare to look back and subconsciously quickened her steps. At this moment, scenes from the horror movies she had seen reverberated in her mind.
The strange noise behind her grew clearer. She held her breath, and just as she was about to cross the courtyard, an ice-cold hand suddenly grabbed her arm. In that instant, An Lan's heart stopped for two seconds, and she couldn't help but let out a cry.
"Lanlan, it's me."
The familiar male voice calmed An Lan a bit.
