Chapter 13 - Chapter 13: Two for a Pair_1

Xun Ke's face blanched at his words.

Wen Sheng was cursing her and Jian Yukuo there!

"You..."

Wen Sheng ignored her and continued, "Actually, none of these matters. You and Jian Yukuo are a pair of birds of a feather, that's enough. But the fact that you came out to disgust me - that's where you went wrong. I'm patient, but I never said I have no temper."

Xun Ke was rendered speechless by Wen Sheng's words.

She realized that the usually reticent Wen Sheng actually had a sharp tongue - a fast blade that could cut someone into pieces. His gentle demeanor and cultured nature were clearly just a facade.

Xun Ke chuckled coldly, touched her facial injury, and said, "Wen Sheng, I originally came to apologize and thank you for your previous care, but now...I don't owe you anything."

With that, Xun Ke turned and left.

When she reached the entryway, Xun Ke suddenly turned back and stared at Wen Sheng. There was endless melancholy and defiance in her eyes. "Wen Sheng," she said, "I'm no worse than you. You just got lucky and met the right person."

Both Wen Sheng and Zhu Qingjia were confused by this.

The right person?

Someone with the surname Jiang?

That's ridiculous!

Zhu Qingjia couldn't be bothered to listen to her chatter. She walked up and kicked her out, then slammed the door shut. Fixing her hair, she asked Wen Sheng, "Sheng Jie, she's definitely going to complain to Jian Yukuo!"

Wen Sheng smiled, "Are you afraid?"

"Afraid of what?" Zhu Qingjia said, "Hitting one is hitting, hitting a pair is a set! Today, I'll stay with you here! Let's see who dares to make a nuisance!"

Wen Sheng shook her head, "We can't sleep here. The sofa and coffee table in the living room, as well as the bed and the cabinet in the second bedroom, I asked the cleaning lady to throw them away. The new ones haven't arrived yet."

Zhu Qingjia glanced at the empty living room, feeling sad. She knew very well that Wen Sheng didn't like to share a bed with anyone, even with her best friend. Zhu Qingjia asked again, "Then...what about staying at my place?"

"That won't work, Jiajia. I need to work on an investment analysis report overnight. If I stay at your place, the morning commute will kill me."

Zhu Qingjia's company was located in the south of the city. To make the commute easier, she bought herself an apartment covering 400 square meters near the company. Considering that an average apartment in that neighborhood costs a whopping RMB 100,000, it was a blatantly extravagant purchase.

During the renovations, she made sure to reserve a bedroom with a study and a walk-in closet for Wen Sheng. She had hoped that Wen Sheng would move in with her so they could spend more time together.

Unfortunately, Wen Sheng's company was located in the north of the city. The morning and evening rush hours were so congested it made life unbearable. That's why Wen Sheng never stayed there on weekdays. The horrible traffic threatened to give her a heart attack. So, the two of them had become "weekend besties".

Seeing Zhu Qingjia worried, Wen Sheng said, "Don't worry, Jiajia. I'll immediately order a locksmith to come and change the front door lock. If anything happens, I will call the police at once."

Both Jian Yukuo and Xun Ke had keys to her apartment. During the day, she left in a hurry and forgot to get someone to change the locks. This gave Xun Ke a chance to come in again.

With the new lock, her place would be more peaceful.

Zhu Qingjia gave her a thousand warnings and only left after the door lock had been changed.

After Wen Sheng had showered and stepped out to see the empty living room, there was a fleeting sense of melancholy.

Back in her bedroom, Wen Sheng looked at the photo of her father on the bedside table, pausing for a few seconds.

She remembered the night of the car accident. Shencheng was blanketed in snow, the streetlights danced amongst the shadows of the trees, and the bitter, cold wind howled ferociously. She was standing at the bus stop, waiting for her father to come. She told him not to rush because it was snowing. He could drive slower.

"You haven't seen your dad in forever. How can you not be in a hurry?", he was gentle on the phone, just like the spring breeze in March that shook the willows, "You always care about studying and you don't even think about finding a boyfriend. Your dad....."

He hadn't finished his sentence when there was a shrill noise that shattered the quiet snow-laden night.

Wen Sheng looked up and saw two cars colliding at the intersection, spewing white smoke.

She couldn't remember how she had gotten there. The world had fallen silent, and the heavy snow had drowned out her cries for help. No matter how hard she screamed, she couldn't bring her father back to life.

Wen Sheng sat on the edge of her bed, picked up her father's photo, and as she touched his face, tears began to fall, dropping onto the glass frame.

"Dad, would I be okay by myself?"

"I can take care of myself."

"And besides, I still have Jiajia...Dad, it's not necessary for someone to look after me, right?"

In the short span of life, finding a suitable partner to spend a lifetime with is really difficult.

Wen Sheng wiped her running nose and stopped crying soon after. She washed her face and opened her laptop to work on the investment analysis report of the Qingzhou Restaurant.

Regardless of her overflowing emotions, she had work to do.

One must never let dejection upset the order of one's life.

Wen Sheng thought that her story with that man from Qingzhou had ended.

But unexpectedly, they met again soon.
