Ava's PoV
I went out wearing his t-shirt, and I would be lying if I said I was fine. My face feels hot, and it's not just because of the weather. You know, I've always borrowed his shirts, but this is the first time he let me wear one after leaving an obscene mark on my chest. The butterflies are killing me. I should be offended since he did it while I was sleeping, but... why am I so happy about it? What a mess. Earlier, I was really down, but now I feel like I'm in heaven.
"Hey, you're finally here. Come help me grill this," Chloe said, handing me the tongs. Wow, I just stepped outside, and she's already giving me an assignment.
Actually, the girls are preparing the food while the boys are setting up the tent for us. According to Aubrey, we're going to drink and play games tonight. Okay, I'm feeling a little more motivated now.
"Big Sis, let me help you," Isabella asked, holding a plate.
"No thanks," Aubrey, Chloe, and I said in unison because, God knows, she's a terrible cook. She can bake, but she can't really cook. I suddenly remember the last time she cooked for us. Ew...
"You guys are mean!" She pouted, and we just laughed at her.
I continued grilling the meat, and Ezra caught me off guard when he suddenly grabbed the tongs while standing behind me.
"Do you see those eyes?" He suddenly asked. What?
"Huh?" I asked, confused, and he looked around, so I did too. Hmm? Men are staring at me... But why? The three girls are in their bikinis, while I'm wearing this huge man's shirt... But why the heck are they staring at me? They looked like stripping me in their mind, ew that's gross.
"Do I look weird?" I asked Ezra, and he sighed. He looked me in the eye, and I did the same.
"You look attractive no matter what you wear. Just imagine how much more if you were wearing that skimpy bikini, " he said with annoyance tone. That got mr off guard. I was speechless. Did he just said that I'm attractive?
"How do I look now?" I asked, and he leaned closer to my ear.
"You look like a lovely wife who just got out of bed after having sex," he whispered, and I quickly stepped on his foot.
"Fuck you, Ezra," I said, and he laughed.
"Look, they're no longer looking at you," he said, and yeah, they're not looking at me anymore. Is it because they think Ezra is my boyfriend?
"They might think that I'm your brother, ugh!" I pinched his side now. How can he be so dense? Brother ? Duh.
"Fuck off before I kill you," I said, but instead of leaving, he just sat down and started playing the guitar. Whatever, I'll just keep grilling the meat.
After preparing the food, we gathered around the table we had set up, creating a typical picnic scene. Aubrey and Asher sat next to me, while Chloe and Theo occupied the other side. Isabella was seated beside me, and Ezra found himself in the corner next to Isabella. I couldn't really help but feel like the third wheel in this group.
As we enjoyed a peaceful dinner, the sun began to set, casting a romantic glow over the surroundings. The atmosphere was undoubtedly enchanting for everyone else, but not for me.
"Ava, I heard you'll be performing an intermission number during the upcoming Intramural," Chloe inquired, and I nodded. It was scheduled to take place in two weeks' time.
"Good luck, just make sure you don't sing another sad song, hahaha," she teased, and I couldn't help but roll my eyes.
"By the way, the confession song you sang on my birthday, was it dedicated to the man you like?" Ezra suddenly asked, catching me off guard. Aubrey and Chloe turned their attention to me, and I silently pleaded for their help, but they seemed oblivious to my distress.
"Y-yeah," I stammered, hoping to divert his attention away. I didn't want him to think it was about him, especially since it happened to be his birthday that day. Fortunately, he's dense.
After finishing our meal, we decided to crack open some beers and engage in lively conversations. We also set up a bonfire to roast marshmallows, creating a cozy atmosphere as we sat on a blanket spread over the sand. As the night progressed, the group decided to play spin the bottle, and luckily, the bottle hadn't landed on me yet.
"Why does it always have to be me?!" Aubrey complained, and we couldn't help but burst into laughter. This time, she chose truth, probably tired of taking on dares.
"What's the deal between you and Asher?" I playfully asked, earning a glare from Aubrey. I was just teasing her, promise.
"We're fuckbuddies," she responded without hesitation. My jaw dropped in surprise. Fuckbuddies? I wasn't expecting that coming from her. Asher looks surprised too.
"We're actually dating, don't mind what she just said," Asher chimed in, trying to clarify the situation, but we're still left dumbfounded. What the heck is wrong with them?
"Who's dating who? Oh my gosh, Asher, fucking never meant dating," Aubrey retorted, causing Asher to frown. This is why she doesn't have a successful love life; her sharp tongue makes it difficult to handle.
"Good luck, Asher," we all chimed in, offering our sympathy.
When it was my turn to spin the bottle, I felt a sense of dread as it pointed directly at me. Oh no.
"Truth or dare?" Aubrey asked, a mischievous smile on her face. She was like a villainess plotting her next move. I braced myself, not wanting her to ask me anything embarrassing.
"Dare!" I quickly responded, hoping to avoid any awkward questions. I couldn't afford to be caught off guard, I might be in trouble if she messed up.
"Go and get us some drinks, haha," she instructed, and I let out a sigh of relief. At least she didn't ask me to kiss Ezra or anything like that. I got up and gave her a playful wink, silently thanking her for not seeking revenge, even though I had almost messed up her earlier.
Ezra seemed preoccupied with Isabella, who had been diligently roasting marshmallows. He didn't spare a glance in my direction. I'm used to it, anyway. Whatever.
I walked away and headed to the nearest restobar. Although there were plenty of drinking stations and stores within the resort, I was feeling lazy and opted for convenience. As I entered, I noticed people staring at me, but I brushed it off and made my way to the counter. There were foreigners around, and some of them had impressive physiques, but Ezra's body was still hotter. The staff at the counter informed me that they would deliver the drinks to our location. It seemed they were familiar with us, especially since Aubrey would be their future boss.
"Excuse me, do you mind if I join you?" a handsome guy suddenly approached me. He had blonde hair and deep blue eyes, but my mind was set on Ezra, who had set a high standard for attractiveness.
"I'm just buying drinks for my friends," I replied, and he let out a sigh.
"Well, just have a drink with me this one time. You know, my friend dared me to do it," he said, and I couldn't help but laugh along.
"Hahaha, well, my friend dared me to buy drinks too," I responded. He handed me a drink, and he didn't seem like a bad guy, so I decided to go ahead and drink it. After all, it wouldn't kill me.
"Cheers," I said, raising the glass to my lips, but before I could take a sip, someone snatched it away from me.
"Hey...Ezra?" What was he doing here?
"Why are you here?" I asked. Instead of answering, he drank the contents of the glass himself. What's wrong with him? He looked at the guy and gave him a serious glare, gosh he's scary...
"Dude, I hope we're done here," he said to the guy, slamming the glass on the table and grabbed my hand. He was clearly furious.
"Ah!" He forcefully dragged me out as if I had done something wrong.
"Hey, let me go! You're hurting me!" I protested, but he released his grip and gave me a serious gaze.
"Are you an idiot or something?! How could you drink something from a stranger? What if you got into trouble or got drugged? What if he had ill intentions towards you? For God's sake, Ava!" he angrily scolded me, his voice filled with frustration. I couldn't help but shed tears as my chest feels so heavy. I wasn't scared of him; it was just the shock of seeing this side of him for the first time. He clearly mad at me.
"Fuck, you're crying again," he muttered, seemingly at a loss for words. I didn't know what to say either. This side of him felt unfamiliar to me.
I was about to say something, but then he suddenly looked weird. His movements seemed a bit unsteady, and he was sweating profusely. He's not drunk right?
"It's fucking... hot here" he said and I think, he was right. I almost got myself in trouble..
To be continued...
