I lift Maia, who is barely conscious, with utmost care and place her on Brii's back. Then, I follow Brii and her dog through the maze of rubble and debris.
The journey is slow, and with each step, my anxiety about Maia's condition grows. Finally, we reach a clearing where colorful tents and caravans are set up. The sight is almost surreal in the desolate landscape.
"Welcome to our humble abode," Brii says with a smile.
As we approach, people begin to emerge from the tents, curious about the newcomers. A tall man with a thick beard and a woman with bright red hair step forward.
"Brii, who have you brought us?" the man asks.
"These are Luke and his friend Maia. I've brought them as guests to my tent," Brii explains.
The woman steps closer and examines Maia with a worried expression. "If you want, you can come to our tent, and I'll take a look at her," she says, leading the way.
