The man slammed his foot on the accelerator, and the truck surged forward, bouncing over rocks, weeds, and the uneven terrain of the mountain road.
"When did these things even start existing?" I heard Luke ask about the truck as I tried, unsuccessfully, to sense those pursuing us, though it was all in vain.
With such strong emotions and the tension of the chase, I couldn't fully sense where each of them was.
"Lacrontte is well-known for its inventions and me to a sudden stop, raising a hand to signal us to do the same. I focused on the flow of magical energy around me, searching for signs of life, but what I felt was a discordant energy, as if something dark and violent had recently passed through here.
"Something's not right," I said quietly.
And we were right..
"Luke!"
"I'm on it."
I felt Luke's magical energy surge significantly before a stream of water splashed down on my head, drenching me completely.
