We stood up slowly, making sure the cueronix was really gone, and then headed toward the cave's exit. The sun was shining brightly, and the heat was overwhelming after the cool darkness inside. But we were alive, and we had a clear purpose in mind.
"Let's go," I said, taking the lead. "The capital awaits."
Maia nodded, following me. The journey is long, and we barely know where we're going.my feet as I floated in the water, and a little further ahead, it stopped me. I opened my eyes as much as the exhaustion would allow, realizing we had reached solid ground.
"Maia," I murmured as I lifted my face in her direction.
"Did we make it?"
"I think so."
I tried to stand up on the sand, and when I managed, I stabilized the board so it wouldn't wobble with the constant waves. Maia raised her head, revealing her tired, dark-circled face from our long, sleepless night trying to survive.
