It wasn't impossible but a more logical and viable theory was time. There was no guarantee that things would go the same as the novel had I done nothing from the beginning. A human mind makes hundreds of decisions in a minute and chooses to go with one of them. If in the novel Eric chose to go left, in this timeline, he could just as easily go right because he just thought of doing so. That had nothing to do with my interference. Things don't always go the same.
