Upon reading further about opals, Angel found out that the new, Stone-Dwelling-made-opals were stone with the Thread of Reflection, the Thread of Chill, the Thread of Smoothness and the Thread of Melody woven in.
However, the ancient opals had been found in the Above, and were seemingly naturally formed, like the Stone outside the City, which grew in twisting and winding forms, some reaching far ahead and towering higher than Angel could see. However, unlike the Stone, they were formed by conditions instead of actually growing by themselves.
Because this did not nearly tell him enough information he would need to make a core or opal of his own, Angel decided to read further on the Threads of Reflection, Chill, Smoothness and Melody.
Two out of the four threads he already knew about—the Thread of Chill prevented one from getting as easily cold, in extreme cold making one indifferent to the chill, and in warmer conditioning than one was used to would make one constantly cool down. However, aside from that, it also froze certain emotions such as extreme happiness, extreme anger or extreme regret, one of the other reasons as to why Angel had decided to weave it into his Tapestry, since it made it easier for him to get out of an emotional situation that could possibly come, and didn't actually impact his life that much. Although he felt happy at times, because of the naturally more calming landscape structured by the Thread of Melody, he was rarely ever in extreme happiness.
The Thread of Melody created a more serene and peaceful structure for the mind, and in doing this, makes the mind worry and think less of irrelevant subjects such as others opinions and whatnot, and because of this effect, makes the mind able to notice more things usually unnoticed—sometimes sending information even faster to the sixth sense and aiding it in its job. However, apart from this, it also made one more compatible with sounds, making someone with the Thread of Melody woven in their Tapestry able to hear sounds better as well as feel the vibrations they made in the air more clearly. Instead of simply just hearing the sound better, they also felt the sound, like a tingling or movement in the air, which they could very clearly feel yet couldn't, at least not in a physical form. This allowed those with the Thread of Melody to become, oftentimes, good watchkeepers or guards.
Because Angel didn't think he needed even more information about the two threads, or at least any more information which he already knew, he decided to instead focus on mainly reading of the Thread of Reflection and the Thread of Smoothness instead.
The Thread of Reflection was a thread without a true pattern, making it essentially the most useful of threads as it deeply resonated with all threads, the ability and help it granted changing depending on the threads it was woven with. However, although resonating, it was not compatible as it wasn't the Thread of Reflection that was compatible with the other threads, merely its ability, which was a manipulated mimic of the threads surrounding it. The Thread of Reflection was one of the most tricky to weave as it had no defined pattern nor design. Even when the Thread of Reflection was alone, it was ever-changing from one pattern to another, making it incredibly difficult to weave. In fact, the only way one could weave the Thread of Reflection was by making the weave-work itself ever-changing in its pattern and design, making it so that all threads could become instantly compatible with it.
Essentially, the Thread of Reflection was not truly a thread at all, and instead a woven pattern of threads that was a mimic of the threads that were in its pattern. Basically, unless the thread was woven so that it was compatible with every single known thread, the Thread of Reflection would only work and create new abilities for those threads in its weave-work.
Angel, after observing one of the two threads, saw that he was unable to identify in Jess Queen's Tapestry, and that the unknown thread was actually the Thread of Reflection with the Thread of Colour, Function, Sight, Melody's patterns woven inside.
This was a new revelation as this meant that if he, too, decided to weave the Thread of Reflection into his Tapestry, the patterns on the thread would only show the patterns of the Threads of Stealth, Melody and Chill.
With this, he could also study the patterns in the Tapestry of Jess Queen and finally start to under the mind of the genius spellweaver.
And because Angel was starting to feel tired after reading all morning and his mind straining to keep in any more information, he bought a week's food and headed back to the Temple of Sky at a slow walk, to allow his mind time to fully understand the information he had just read as well as to let it sink in.
However, he also borrowed a book on the Threads for some light reading, as he planned not to return to the city for a few days and instead rest and connect more with the Being of the Nights and Days.
