Carleton university was a very broad institution. It was like a country of its own. The school spread through over 100 acres. The buildings were a mix of Morden and historic architecture. The historical buildings caught my eye more, I couldn't wait to have a look at the interior. I had heard so much about the architecture and most of all the Henry Marshall Tory building and the MacOdrum Library. The Henry Marshall Tory building was built in the 20th century but had a perfect architecture in Gothic-style and had most of the administrative offices, it was named after the university's first president. The MacOdrum Library could be the oldest building as it was built in the 1960's and was named after the university's second president. It had a modernist style with a distinctive design that made it stand out. I could stare all day at the beauty that was before my eyes. I was so amazed with my new environment buh I still missed mum and Granville. I had to queue up to get an admission into the residence halls. Most of the Freshers seemed to be happy and laughing at each other. Some were already making new friends and making plans for a party, I overheard them say it was gonna be in two weeks after all the Freshers had resumed."A PARTY!!!!¿" My thoughts were wild and my heart was racing already. I was traumatized by the way the girls spoke about this party they were so nervous about. I had to eavesdrop on the ladies talking behind me cause I couldn't help it. I was so interested in what they were saying that I couldn't see Collins as he was approaching me."NELLIE!! My man" he shouted as he came in heavy with a big hug."Yoo bro..." I said just realizing he was there, most of the room turned to look at us buh I didn't really care about their gaze." Yoo man I already got a room for both of us, didn't want you to stress yourself my man" He said pulling me out if the line.Collin and I had been friends since elementary school, he was tall, slender, dark skinned with a high taper he always maintained. He also lived in Granville a few blocks away from out home. We always played ball together though he was better cos of his height. No doubt he had more odds to make it to the school team than I. Though we had disagreements sometimes we always saw past them and we knew each other well now.He helped me get my luggage to the apartment he had gotten for both of us. We had already paid and it came with daily meals so we didn't have to spend much money on feeding. The room was for two people and that was the both of us. I was so grateful I didn't have to stay with a total stranger. He helped me unpack my things."The ladies are peng yunno.." Collin said as he helped me with the unpacking." You've always been the ladies man, buddy" I said with a little chuckle, it was a name he had gotten from Highschool due to the way he related with women stress-freely. He was so confident with talking to the opposite gender, I wasn't much of a social person tho, I had a few feminine friends. I was very nervous whenever I had to talk to a girl. Collin always teased me that I wouldn't have a lady to get married to."You are gonna get a girl right... I can help you with that" he said with a broad smile. I never had the balls to ask a girl out. He always said that, it didn't hurt at first but I got used to it and accepted the painful truth. " I'm gonna get the most beautiful girl, yunno" I said jokingly and we both laughed. Later that day we had an orientation Collin had bet me he was gonna make as much friends as he could. I had told him I could only give him moral support. It was how I told him I was not gonna be part of something. I hadn't told mum I was in school, I was already missing her and needed to talk to her, so I took out my phone. Mum had refused to get me a gadget till when I was 14, then she got me an iPhone 6plus and she had changed it to an iPhone Xs of recent. "Nobby, how was your trip" mum said as she picked the call"I'm good, mum. . . . I have gotten my apartment" I said not knowing what to say. "So how's the first day going?""It's a bit strange having a ton of new people round me without having a clue who they are,... I miss home" I said finally " It's okay dear, you are just there for sometime. You'll always come back home during breaks. Just hang on and be strong as I have always taught you to be darling"" Yes ma'am, I would be. Love you Mum"" I love you too Nobby, gotta get back to work now darling. We'll talk later, Byeee" "Byee Mum" I said as she had already hung up the phone before I could. " Mummy's Boyyyyyy.... Missing home already?" Collins teased me as the call ended. " I'm gonna chop your ears off " I said back laughing, I had always made jest of his big ears. " Let's go for the the orientation, dude" he said as he stood up from his bed. The orientation was full of sight seeing and historic tales. The guide had a wide knowledge and could explain even why the bricks were placed on a particular pattern. He was a genius and I almost thought he was there while it all happened due to the confidence he spoke with. Collins had left me a couple of times to talk to ladies he had already made friends with but I was to interested in the history to leave it for another thing. It was an interesting adventure and I was doing fine until I decided to turn behind and take a look.I was astounded at what I saw, the girl was the most beautiful one I had seen, she was standing next to a sculpture. She had long, wavy brown hair with brown eyes. She was of average height and was smiling, he smile could melt the heart of a man like wax. She style was eclectic, she wore a gray top and brown skirt that matched her skin. She had a glowing skin and face that could get the attention of any man she met. She was so confident and for like a half second I thought she was staring back, though she was in a deep conversation with her friends. " Nellie my man, I can see you're ogling that laddy over there" Collins said and I turned swiftly." You scared me!.. How long have you been here man?" I asked tryna change the topic. " Man I think you like her, why don't you go meet her?" He said lightly like he didn't know me." Man, it's too early I'll do that later" I said " let's go the orientation is still going on Bro" I said so we could leave the place.Throughout the rest of the day I couldn't help but think about how beautiful this girl was I could not even ask for a name but I guess I did name her in my heart, MY DREAM GIRL.
