Chapter 40 - The Fated Mission I

Day 175 of 183

"Ahhhhh!!!"

"Help!!!"

Chaos ensued in a village that was relatively larger in size than the ones that the demonic humans have raided.

In the center of the village, a crowd of villagers could be seen.

They were surrounded by people who were armed with various steel weapons.

However, no matter what they did, the armed villagers couldn't even defend against one of the demonic humans' attacks.

This was because the armed villagers couldn't utilize any kind of energy.

"H-How could these children do these…"

A mother in the crowd sniffled as she saw the demonic humans who looked to be no older than her son kill relentlessly.

Among those demonic humans, a few children stood out from the rest.

A girl with black hair who takes lives with her demonic claws and inhumane power.

A boy who crazily drinks the blood of the people that he had killed.

Another boy who laughed at the desperate people running away from him.

"Hey, Vanessa! Don't kill them instantly! Let me hear their screams more, hahaha!" The boy kept laughing as he killed an elderly man.

The girl he called Vanessa turned her head to him and said, "You're disgusting, Perto! Why can't you just be like Brutt? Even if he's weird and drinks blood, he isn't as loud as you!"

The three of them were in the lead as they killed more and more of the villagers.

"Hahahaha! Good, good! They have really grown quite well!" The demonic human leader laughed as he watched from afar.

He had been giving special attention to the three children because of their talents.

Vanessa was the girl who awakened a Platinum-grade Gift due to the baptism of demonic power.

Brutt awakened a Gold-grade Gift that was suitable for demonic humans.

Meanwhile, Perto was just really crazy.

He was also the first one to give in to the temptation of demonic power.

The demonic human leader kept observing each and every one of the 113 children that he was nurturing.

With the exception of the earlier three, all the other children had crazed expressions as they killed tirelessly.

They were simply just mindless killing machines who thrived on murder.

'I don't need many generals. All the others are not worthy…'

Thought the demonic human leader as he paid no special attention to the other demonic children.

Only he knew that he had ordered the other demonic humans to still give his three favorites calming soups to help them have a sane mind.

'Oh, now that I thought about it… there's still someone…'

Seemingly remembering something, the demonic human leader observed the children again.

Before long, a boy with special features came to his sight.

The boy was Regis.

The demonic human leader observed him, along with Greg and Lea who were close by.

As he observed, the demonic human leader saw that Regis and the others had a crazed expression on their faces- just like the other children.

The demonic human leader smiled, 'It's a pity that he had lost his mind, but he should still be an adequate sacrifice…'

Later that day…

The village was now in ruins.

No signs of villagers could be seen as all of them meath the same fate– death.

Inside one of the houses in a secluded area, three children could be seen inside.

A boy was vomiting in the sink, a girl was sitting on a chair with trembling knees.

And last but not the least, a boy with a calm expression on his face.

"When w-will this end…" Greg said after vomiting, his voice trembled.

The things they were doing were also starting to take its toll on Lea, but she was still able to keep herself from breaking down.

Regis gazed at them with calm eyes.

He was impressed, to be honest.

'I couldn't remain as kind as them.' He thought to himself.

Greg and Lea, despite repeatedly killing people, didn't get used to it.

They still remained guilty of what they did.

Regis, on the other hand, had become used to it.

He had become indifferent to life.

Therefore, he was really impressed by his two friends.

Finally, he spoke, "Don't worry, we won't have to keep acting for long."

His words caught the attention of the two.

The crazed expressions they wore earlier as they took the innocent lives of the villagers was merely an act to fit in with the others.

Smiling, Regic continued, "I heard from the other demonic humans that our mission will soon be complete."

Greg and Lea looked at each other, both seemingly relieved.

They didn't even know any details, but just a hint that everything would soon end was enough to make them feel relieved.

That was how much they loathed their current situation.

However, there was something that Regis hadn't told them.

What he heard wasn't that "their mission will be complete", it's that "they will soon serve their use and be disposed of".

'I need to find out what exactly the Leader is planning…'

Regis steeled himself.

"Come, you two. I'll help you with your demonic power so you won't be like the other children."

Greg and Lea both shuddered as they remembered the demonic faces of their companions.

The image of their innocent faces that they had a long time ago seemed very different to the one they had now.

They had truly become demonic humans.

In a dark place…

"Leader! We have received the news that the Executor sent by Ligera has arrived at the Corelli Fortress!"

A demonic human kneeled as he spoke.

"Haha… Hahahahaha!"

The demonic human leader had a twisted expression on his face as he laughed maniacally.

"Good! Good! Let them wait their asses off for nothing. We shall depart for Toran City immediately!"

"Yes, Leader!"

"Wait."

The demonic human, who was just about to leave, turned his head.

What greeted his eyes was the demonic human leader's serious expression.

"Make sure that nothing will go wrong, will you?"

Nervously nodding his head, the demonic human responded, "U-Understood, Leader!"

"You may go."

A grin appeared on the demonic human leader's face.

"You hypocrites must have thought that you had seen through my plans, huh?"

Crrrrkkkk~

Hearing a strange sound, he looked down and saw his right hand that was slowly rotting.

The flesh on it was dark purple, and some bones could be seen on it.

"It seems like this body won't hold on any longer… I need to set the plan in motion immediately."

The demonic human leader muttered in the dark.
