Chapter 18 - Falling From Grace II

A boy with dark hair and eyes gripped the wooden sword in his hand tightly.

His name was Jabar.

Jabar had been living in the village for all 10 years of his life.

He lived happily, away from the wild beasts in the forests, safely tucked in the village.

He made many friends and knew many people.

However, his happy days came to an end when he was chosen as one of the child sacrifices.

It was common knowledge within the village that when a child was chosen as a sacrifice to the demonic humans, he or she would become an outcast.

It was like a verdict to them.

'I-I can do this…' he thought, seemingly convincing himself to be determined.

However, his nervousness was apparent in his trembling hands and heavy breathing.

Looking at the person in front of him, he felt a chill run down his spine.

Snow-white hair, coupled with blood-red eyes.

In his eyes, the boy in front of him was nothing short of a monster.

Even though his opponent was unarmed, he did not let down his guard.

Seeing the trembling boy in front of him, Regis's expression darkened.

'Do I really need to kill him…'

Even though he had already killed a person, Regis could not help but feel some hesitation.

After all, unlike the old lady, the fear was apparent in the boy's eyes.

Thus, Regis felt different.

He formed his trembling hands into a fist.

His eyes darted around and saw that the other children were still hesitating like him.

At this moment, the demonic human leader shouted, "If you waste any more of my time, I might just get bored and kill everyone here."

The old man's eyes constricted as fear filled his and everyone's body.

The pressure bearing upon the children multiplied.

Splurt—

Arghhh—!!!

A shout caught the attention of everyone as they turned their heads to the source of the sound.

They could see a child whose stomach was impaled by a wooden spear.

The eyes of the demonic children, Regis included, went wide as they saw one of their own die in real time.

Arghhh—

Haaaa—

It did not take long before everything became submerged in chaos.

Children, who should have been playing with each other, were currently killing each other without any reservations.

Their actions were driven with the desire to survive.

"Ahhh!!"

Regis looked at the boy who was shouting as he charged at him with all his might.

Swoosh—

The boy waved the wooden sword in his hands which Regis was able to dodge quite easily.

'Is this the difference between a human who's awakened and someone who's not…?'

He heard earlier about the fact that the children were all trained in some sort of weapons.

However, despite this, Regis was still able to easily dodge the sword even without any training.

'Am I really going to do this…?'

'Is there no other way??'

'I really… don't want to experience that again…'

Regis thought as he continuously dodged Jabar's attacks.

He could not help it.

He really did not want to kill another person again.

There was too much going on.

Regis was already trying his best in order to keep himself from breaking down.

"Argh!! Don't mess with me, you Devil's Spawn!!!"

Jabar shouted in anger.

He had been really frustrated because his opponent only dodged him, as if not taking him seriously.

It was at this moment that Regis's ears twitched.

"Devil's Spawn… huh…"

Something seemed to have clicked inside him.

All his life, that was the stigma that was ingrained upon his very being.

Devils and demons were the subject of hatred of not only all of humanity, but also every other race there were in the world.

Even children were aware of how disgusting the devils and demons were.

Therefore, to Regis who had been called that nickname his entire life, it was a sore spot.

"Maybe…"

"I should be what they call me…"

"Maybe…"

Regis looked Jabar in the eye, his blood-red eyes flashing in a strange light.

"Fine."

Regus slowly walked towards his opponent as he clenched his fist.

"I'll be the Devil's Spawn you called me to be."

As much as he did not want to hurt other people, Regis was tired of being stigmatized by the people he met.

Just because of his eye color- something which he could not control.

The pressure, stress, and everything that had been filling his mind lately really took its toll on him.

He had been extremely exhausted since the time he entered the demonic human camp.

After all, Regis had his guard up at all times.

Coupled with the fact that he had just killed someone earlier today.

And as if that was not enough, he was also forced to absorb the corpse of the old lady- something which deeply disgusted him.

Jabar calling him a Devil's Spawn was like the final straw of his sanity.

The only thing that was keeping him who he was.

"Fuck it."

Utilizing the demonic power in his body, Regis rushed towards his opponent.

Jabar was shocked to see his passive opponent suddenly charge aggressively.

"What!"

This caused his response to be a little late, he was only able to clumsily defend with his sword against Regis.

Crack— Boom!!!

To Jabar's surprise, his wooden sword cracked before exploding to pieces as it came into contact with Regis's punch.

Regis did not waste any more time and grabbed Jabar's neck with his other hand.

"Keuk…!! Ple… ase… h-... ha.. ve… m-mer… cy…"

Jabar did his best to utter those words as he had a hard time breathing because of the hand choking his neck.

Regis tilted his head, his blood-red eyes slightly becoming filled with insanity.

Crack—

A crack sounded as Regis squeezed His opponent's neck.

Swoosh—

Regis dodged to the side as he heard something cutting through the air.

He looked ahead and saw about 10 children rushing towards him.

However, he did not run away and instead, met up with them head-on.

Regis did not question why there were still others rushing to fight him.

After all, the demonic human leader only asked for 113 sacrifices, matching the number of Regis and the others.

Therefore, it was only supposed to be a one-on-one battle.

However, Regis was not in the right mind to think logically.

His strained mind had finally reached its limit.

Without thinking of anything, Regis only let his body move on its own as he utilized his demonic power.
