Chapter 18 - A Price Paid in Blood

After a month of Parel's wedding, Silver and Charlie were enjoying a shopping date. They walked hand in hand, laughing together when Charlie's phone rang. As he answered, Silver spotted a cute boutique across the street. Excited, she pulled her hand away and dashed ahead, glancing back at Charlie with a smile.

Charlie nodded, focused on his call. When he finished, he looked up just in time to see Silver crossing the street, her eyes fixed on the store. Suddenly, a car sped around the corner, its horn blaring.

"Silver!" Charlie shouted, panic flooding his chest as he sprinted toward her.

But it was too late. The car struck Silver, sending her crashing to the pavement. Charlie reached her just moments later, kneeling beside her as he cradled her head in his arms, panic rising in his chest and fear flooding his heart.

"Stay with me, Silver. Please," he begged, his voice trembling as he felt her warmth slipping away. The world around him blurred, and the sounds of laughter and busy shoppers faded into silence.

Silver looked at Charlie, her eyes filled with love. "You're my lion," she whispered. "I love you. Don't miss me too much, and find another love."

"No, never! Nothing will happen to you!" Charlie cried, desperation gripping him. He couldn't bear the thought of losing her.

Taking a deep breath, Silver could see someone waiting for her soul. "I have to go now. Tell my family I love them very much, and I always will. Bye, my lion." Her hand gently touched Charlie's cheek, a final gesture of love and comfort.

As Silver's hand fell away, Charlie felt a cold emptiness wash over him. The warmth that had been there was gone, leaving a deep ache in his heart.

"Silver!" he cried, his voice breaking. He shook her gently, desperately hoping she would respond. "Please, don't leave me!" But her eyes stayed closed, and her breath had stopped.

Panic surged through him. He looked around at the crowd that had gathered, their faces a blur of worry and disbelief. Some were on their phones, calling for help, but to Charlie, time felt like it had stopped.

He cradled her head in his lap, tears streaming down his face. "Please, Silver, come back to me. I can't do this without you!"

As the minutes dragged on, a heavy weight settled in his chest, pressing down on him. He wanted to scream at the unfairness of it all. How could this happen again? Why couldn't he protect her?

He pressed his forehead against hers, wishing he could trade his life for hers. "I promise I'll never forget you," he whispered through his sobs. "You are my everything."

Finally, sirens approached, their loud wails cutting through the haze. The world around him began to blur with flashing lights and shouting voices, but Charlie couldn't focus on anything but Silver lying lifeless in his arms.

Two months had passed since Silver's death, and Charlie felt like he was stuck in a never-ending nightmare. The pain of losing her was still fresh, cutting through him like a knife every time he thought of her. Days blurred together, and each morning felt heavier than the last.

Charlie's heart was heavy with grief. He replayed the day of the accident in his mind, wishing he could change what happened. He blamed himself for not being more careful.

Silver's family were supportive, but he could see the sadness in their eyes. They were broken by the sudden loss. Charlie felt a strong need to comfort them, but every time he saw them, he was reminded of Silver's absence.

Sometimes, he would sit quietly with Silver's family, hoping that being together would bring them some comfort. But even then, all he could think about was Silver and the empty space her death had left in his life. The memories they had together haunted him; every smile and gentle touch felt like a painful reminder of what he had lost.

As the days went by, Charlie struggled to move on. The weight of the world felt heavy on him, and it was like he was walking through a thick fog, unable to shake off the pain.

The driver who caused the accident had a scar on his left cheek and a snake tattoo on his right arm. He was a thief running from the police when the tragedy happened.

After he was arrested, Charlie made sure he faced consequences for what he had done in both lives. But even with justice served, the pain in Charlie's heart remained. No punishment could bring Silver back.

Charlie stood before Silver's grave, the weight of grief heavy in his chest. He knelt down, carefully placing a bouquet of her favorite flowers, white roses, onto the cool, hard ground. The soft petals glistened in the sunlight, symbolizing both the beauty and fragility of her life.

"Hey, angel," he whispered, his voice barely above a hush. "I miss you so much. It's not the same without you." He paused, feeling the sting of tears in his eyes. "Do you miss me?" he asked softly. "I hope you do."

He lingered in the peaceful stillness of the cemetery, lost in memories of their time together. Reluctantly, he got up to leave. He glanced once more at her grave, and a bittersweet smile crossed his face. "Until we meet again," he whispered.

As Charlie turned to walk away, he felt a mixture of sadness and hope. Each step felt heavy, but he knew he would carry Silver's memory with him.

The world outside the cemetery continued to move, and as he stepped through the gate, he promised himself to cherish the love they shared, finding strength in her memory.
