The woman stumbled back, her mind reeling. "A Shield of Virtue?" she gasped. "But that's impossible!"
Helpers couldn't use a knight's skill, after all. "No, they can't use skills at all."
The woman was shocked. She saw something that shouldn't be possible. A helper was using a skill only knights should have. This made little sense to her, none at all. She couldn't understand how it could happen.
But she wasn't alone there. In that moment of confusion and hesitation, the helper struck. Its form shimmered, and suddenly it was holding a spear.
If she had known from whom the helper was, she would have recognized the spear as Lament. But she didn't. She had never seen the weapon, nor the helper's face, which was completely identical to Sebastian.
Before the woman could react, the helper's weapon plunged forward, finding its mark in her eye socket.
