Sebastian entered Ezra's house. A house, Sebastian wasn't even sure if it could be called in that way.
Ezra's house was decrepit. The walls were cracking and peeling, and the furniture appeared to be old.
Dust covered most of the surfaces, and cobwebs hung from the ceiling corners. The air smelled musty, like this was an abandoned attic.
Sebastian's eyes adjusted to the flickering light of the candles scattered about the room.
These were the primary means through which people got light in the outer city, but if Ezra could only use candles, it meant his situation was worse than Sebastian assumed.
Though it was clear Ezra was someone who liked to read a lot, since the scent of old parchment and musty tomes could be smelled even from the entrance door.
