"Do you think...?" Thomas' eyes were wide. It was clear what he was feeling wasn't the usual.
The guy was almost every time haughty and arrogant, but now, in his eyes, there was only fear.
Miyoko was the same. Her face paled, and panic started surging through her. The two were not stupid. They knew what the tremors meant, and they knew what increasing ones were going to lead to.
Though, in her eyes, there was still hope, because maybe, just maybe, the beast wasn't exactly coming toward the villa.
"We need to see what's happening," she said, grabbing Thomas' arm and pulling him towards the stairs.
They raced up to the upper floor, where they reached a windowed room.
Their steps were shaky and cautious. Thomas clutched the banister like his lifeline. Miyoko clutched the railing, as if that could somehow protect her. Every creak of the wooden floorboards echoed their growing fear.
