Chapter 16 - Hoodlums hunt (4)

"I'm sure he will give me another reason to do so," Sebastian said with a smile, while captivated by Rebecca's beautiful eyes and radiant smile.

"Hahahahaha, this reminds me of when you scolded Lucas's son for having told me I was stupid."

But then her smile faltered. Rebecca knew that the Wickens family lost all contacts with Sebastian family.

Only Sebastian and those who actively took part in his father's murder knew what really happened. Most, like Rebecca, did not know.

To be honest, many could say that Sebastian was crazy to be in love with the daughter of one of those that actively took part in his father's murder. But Sebastian was, in fact, crazy.

However, that wasn't the only and obvious reason for that. The truth was that Sebastian couldn't find in his heart to blame or hate Rebecca, even if she was Miranda's daughter.

He couldn't blame her for the sins of her mother, and that was also because they grew together, at least up to a certain point.

Rebecca realized that talking about Lucas Wickens and his son may have not been very tactful with her. Sebastian knew what she was thinking. He knew her that well.

"Don't worry. I'm not so petty as to get mad because you talked about them."

The young woman's face eased. "Thanks, but I still want to apologize."

She then paused. "Have you ever talked to one of them after…?" Rebecca asked.

If Sebastian could reply truthfully, he would have said something like: He was referring to the time before his regression.

But of course, he couldn't say that. Because of Somnium existence, something like traveling to the past wasn't something totally out of mind.

Though it was still something that never happened, and he doubted the woman would take him seriously.

Sebastian was grappling with the need to tell Rebecca everything, how the four sacred clans killed his father with the help of his most trusted friends.

How her mother was implicated in the matter. But, of course, he remained silent. Besides, not even he knew everything. What if someone lied? What if they deceived him for some reasons he wasn't aware of?

With these thoughts in mind, he turned to look at the woman with an embarrassed and apologetic look, after having briefly turned his gaze on the mop he was using.

"I need to finish this."

Rebecca understood. "Yeah, yeah. Sorry for having troubled you."

"No trouble at all, Reb. See you around school."

After a nod, Rebecca left the area, and Sebastian was left alone with his thoughts.

After a while, Sebastian ended his task and cleaned the part of the school he was tasked with cleaning.

His excitement started to bloom, though, because he knew what he was going to do after that.

Sebastian left the school, his mind set on his usual target—the slums of Exidia, the place where the Cobalt Serpents could be found.

With a mix of anticipation and a dark sense of purpose, he made his way to the nearest bus stop, blending in with the crowd until a bus heading towards the city's forgotten edges rumbled to a stop.

He boarded, paying his fare with the Starcoins from his earlier hunts, and settled in for the ride. Sebastian was itching to fight.

The bus wound its way through the bustling streets of Exidia, gradually leaving behind the well-lit avenues and polished facades of the city center.

As it ventured further into the outskirts, the scenery transformed drastically. The slums of Exidia loomed ahead, a stark contrast to the structured but well mantained chaos of the inner city.

Here, the air was thick with desperation and neglect. Rarely illuminated by flickering streetlights, the narrow alleys and crammed spaces were shrouded in darkness, even with the sun still relatively above.

Sebastian stepped off the bus and into a world where poverty clung to the air like a persistent fog.

Drug addicts huddled in shadowy corners, their eyes hollow, lost to the grip of their addiction.

The ground was littered with dirt and trash, a testament to the decay that had taken root in this part of the city.

Buildings, once perhaps full of life and color, now stood dilapidated and crumbling.

While navigating through the slums, Sebastian's senses were assaulted by the pervasive stench of decay and the muffled sounds of despair that echoed off the walls.

This was a place forgotten by time, forsaken by the city's beating heart, yet alive with the kind of danger and lawlessness that drew him in.

It was then that Sebastian saw someone he had never expected to see there, in the slums.

Of course, Derrick and the other two noticed Sebastian with the mad grin he was now usually seen wearing, plastered on his face.

Though, he was also staring at them like an idiot. "Derrick," one of the goons said as he saw Sebastian.

"I saw him." Derrick said, a smirk spreading across his face. With a sudden burst of energy, he charged towards Sebastian, his goons exchanging glances before following suit, their steps echoing through the empty streets.

"Ah! They've scouted a fool for their sport! " His mind raced with glee. "Wait! The jest's on me, the madcap they sought! "

Sebastian, meanwhile, couldn't suppress the wild grin etched on his face as he sprinted in the opposite direction.

However, what Derrick didn't realize was that he was heading them to a dark alley he passed through earlier.
