Aries fingers traced the dusty shelves of lyrien's Library, searching for a specific tome. Her mentors vaste collection held her curiosity, as she pushed aside a stack of parchment scrolls, a worn leather book caught her eye.
The cover was adorned with strange symbols, pulsing with a faint otherworldly glow. Aries heart raced as she opened the book, revealing yellowed pages filled with ancient script. The words seemed to shift, rearranging themselves as she read out the words.
"Don't let her know her true powers, gentle as a dove but danger lurks around her,for the power she possess could be the end of her and that of humanity".
Aries re-read these strange words slowly, somehow she knew these surreal words were speaking to her. She closed the book abruptly and took a deep breath.
As she stood there, the Library's silence felt oppressive and the air seemed to vibrate with an eerie energy, her mind raced with questions: what powers? What danger?, Something surely doesn't feel right. She tried to shake off the feeling of being watched but it only intensified.
Suddenly, the candles flickered and the shadows on the walls seemed to twist into menacing forms. Aries heart beat accelerated, she knew she had to get out but her feet felt rooted to the spot, something was trying to stop her.
She tried all she could but her feet wouldn't move, she muttered an ancient spell but the situation only got worse, the ghostly shadows were now hovering around her, itching to tear her into pieces, their gravely voices made her ears bleed so badly.
She knew there was no escaping these hungry creatures that have come for her soul.
Thrain who was outside tending to the horses under the dim moonlight, sensed an ominous shift in the atmosphere, for some strange reason the air blew past him with an eerie tone .
His instincts screamed warnings as he rushed towards the tower then through the library entrance. He burst through the door, his sword drawn, ready to fight whatever evil that threatened Aries.
The sight inside made his blood run cold: Aries stood frozen, surrounded by dark, ethereal entities that seemed to be draining her life force. Their ghostly voices pierced the air,a spine chilling chorus that made his skin crawl. With a battle hardened cry,he charged forward, his sword flashing in the dim light.
The entities turned to face him, their shadowy forms coalescing into menacing, outworldly warriors. Aries tried to stop him, she waved her hands frantically towards him but he was too busy to notice. There was no need fighting these monsters, she believed this was her fight,no one has to get involved, not Thrain especially.
" Thrain stop, you are going to get yourself killed!" She yelled with all her might.
Thrain ignored her and attacked swiftly, swinging his sword in different directions, poking and slashing but his mere sword could do so little to these monsters,it only made them more angry and agitated. With a powerful wave of their claws, they sent Thrain flying outside,he landed into stables unconscious.
Aries felt a surge of despair as Thrain was thrown outside, she knew she had to act fast or he will be killed.
With a newfound determination, she focused her energy and spoke an ancient incantation. The words resonated deep within her, unlocking a hidden power.
Her eyes glowed with ethereal light as she raised her hands and a shimmering barrier erupted around her repelling the dark entities. She took advantage of the momentary reprieve and rushed out to Thrain's side, her heart aching at the sight of his unconscious form. She felt his pulse,it was incredibly low and his breathing was unstable, she placed her hand gently on his chest and muttered a spell,he became calm instantly.
Aries turned to face the monsters fully, they seem to recover way too fast, the spell she had used was a really powerful one but it was no match for them, they were able to break through the barrier. They crawled out of the tower snarling viciously.
Aries closed her eyes and lowered her heart beat, she tried to focus all her energy.
"It's now or never". She muttered under her breath.
As she focused her energy, the air around her began to distort and a brilliant light burst fourth, enveloping the creatures completely, they let out a deafening screech as they stumbled backwards, momentarily blinded by the intensity of the light . She wasted no time, grasping Thrain's arm and pulling him towards the entrance of the tower, she could feel the creatures recovering their darkness, gathering strength to strike again.
With a final surge of energy, she pushed Thrain inside and followed, slamming the door shut behind them. The creatures crashed into the door, their snarls and claws echoing through the night.
After what seemed like forever, everywhere suddenly became dead-silent, making Aries to become more apprehensive, she listened but heard neither the snarls nor growls, she went ahead to take a peek through the keyhole but saw nothing, the monsters were indeed gone. Slumped to the ground, exhaustion written all over her delicate face.
She sign deeply and wiped off the sweat on her forehead with the back of her hand. As she sat there catching her breath, she noticed Thrain's chest rising and falling with slow and steady rhythm. She reached out and gently touched and turned his face towards her, relieved to see a hint of color returning to his cheeks.
"Thrain?". She whispered, her voice barely audible.
"Can you hear me?". She smooth his hair, her gentle touch was met with a faint groan.Thrain's eyes flickered open and he gazed up at Aries with a confused expression.
"Ari...Aries are you alright, are you hurt, your ears are bleeding".He said anxiously and then tried to get up but was hindered by the severe pain in his right shoulder.
"Am okay Thrain, try not to move alright". Aries said grabbing s small white cloth, she tore it into two then stuffed it into her ears to stop the blood from coming out.
Thrain managed to sit up,rubbing his shoulder,Aries helped him to lean against a table.
"Those creatures,wha...what are they Aries, where did they come from?" Thrain asked slowly without hiding the fear in his eyes.
"I have exact same question Thrain, I really don't know what they are or where they came from but one thing I know for sure is,those monsters are not of this world". Aries said moving away from him,she went over to the shelf where she had found the strange book but it was gone and without a trace.
"It's gone". She said looking around. Thrain looked up from where he sat, more confused than ever.
"What is it,what is gone?".
Aries pointed to the shelf frantically. "The book,it was right here where did it...how did it just disappear...". She pushed aside the piles of books and scrolls on the shelf, she just couldn't wrap her head around anything.
"I don't understand Aries, what are you looking for precisely?". Thrain stood to his feet and staggered to where she stood dazed for a moment.
Just then a figure emerged from the darkness, their long strides graceful and purposeful.
