Chapter 17 - Imaginary Friend

Immobile but consciously awake beside Zophiria, Seran's eyeballs were glued to the wall like a child on punishment.

"Paralyzed... stuck right here.. In this room with no escape. This is karma—no justice for the sins I've committed in the past.," Seran thought to himself in a fret.

"Justice? Haha, Oh, you're such a comedian, Seran," the woman's anonymous voice in his head sarcastically stated.

Thiolana, you came back! I knew you'd come back!"Seran exclaimed cheerfully deep within his mind.

"Yeah, yeah, have you tried saying hi at all because it seems like it's always Thiolana, this Thiolana that, now what do you want?" she questioned irritably as she mocked him.

"I'm paralyzed I need your help. I was hoping maybe you'd know how to undo it, "Seran subconsciously chuckled nervously.

"Honestly, you think I'm a doctor that cures patients, "she followed up with more sarcasm to Seran's question.

"No, I just, " Seran hesitated and then unexpectedly went into silence, feeling self-conscious.

"Do you love me," Thiolana asked.

"Yes, I've always loved you I'm sorry for failing you, "Seran replied worriedly.

"It's fine alright, I'm alright. Just focus on me. I'm right here with you. Can you see me? "she asked, giggling slightly.

Seran's eyes scanned the room, but there was no sign of Thiolana anywhere in the room. Confused he wondered if Thiolana thought of this as a cruel joke to play on him.

"I don't see a thing," Seran commented subconsciously, sighing uncomfortably.

"This isn't a joke, look again, and this time I mean really look, "Thiolana emphasized strongly.

"First things first, believe in my presence with all your heart. Then envision it with your eyes, "Thionlana explained.

"I don't see how this helps undo the paralysis, "Seran replied subconsciously.

"Trust me unless you want to stay that way, and if you love me like you claim to, you'll do it, " she insisted with a cunning determined manner.

Seran couldn't contain the guilt inside himself he blurted out, " You know I'd do anything for you, " before he knew it he'd spoken his resolve for her.

"Good, now, focus, "she replied.

Seran went into a dream-like state where he could foresee memories of Thiolana standing in a white room, her hair flowing with a brightening smile on her face. The gaze of her honey-brown eyes was therapeutic like a comforting bed of flowers.

"Now that you acknowledge me, seek me out with your eyes, " she said calmingly.

Awakening from the dream, he slowly raised his head to glance to the right. To his surprise, a clouded figure began to immerse in the dimly lit room, forming an ethereal silhouette of Thiolana. The figure appeared to hover beside the bed in a misty, transparent form, creating an unfamiliar, otherworldly presence in the room. Seran gasped, uneasy if he should be relieved or worried.

Ssh, I'll lend you my aid. " Thiolana hushed, putting her misty, pointer finger against her lips as she arched over him.

Withdrawing her pointing finger from her lips, she pointed downward at Seran's heart before gently poking him on the peck of his chest. The sound of a single droplet splashed the surface of his heart. Tu thump, the single heartbeat transferred the glimmering power through his veins.

"Now rise," She chuckled continuously as Seran's feet planted the ground, and the IV dangled from the bed with only the other end attached to Zophiria. Audaciously, she smirked in demand, "Time for a walk; sitting still is cramping my style."

"What about- " We don't have time for this Seran let's go, "she interrupted.

Seran glanced over his shoulder back at Zophiria, disturbed to leave her after having been taken into her care.

Now, Seran, " she said elevating her tone firmly.

Seran gripped the door handle and turned the latch of the bolted shut door. Exhaling nervously he opens it but, standing between him and the doorway is the barrier. Inattentive to the barrier Seran somehow passes straight through it without being detected or repelled by it. Zophiria whimpers barely opening her eyes.

Groggy, Zophiria queries him, " Seran.. what are you doing out of bed?"

Halfway asleep she closed her eyes again, in spite of the fact that Seran was up she had an urgent wake-up call from Seran being outside of the room from her conscious mind. Zophoria's eyelids shot open like a fresh can of soda being popped open.

"Seran!" Zophiria shouted anxiously, jumping out of bed before slipping on the sheets and trying to dart to the door. She lands on the invisible chair, breaking it into chunks and pieces. Zophiria grunted and moaned, struggling to lift her head from the rubble. The weakening exchange of spiritual energy from the IV had drained her spiritual reserves. Forcing herself back to her feet she catches a glimpse of the back of Seran's shirt as he walks away.

Zophoria stumbles over to the door to exit,  unlike Seran, who was capable of walking through the barrier, the doorway repels her from leaving bouncing her away onto her rear end.

Recovering back to her feet, she rushed to the barrier, leaning her face against it to get a visual of Seran's whereabouts. "No, no, no, come back; you can't be out there!" Zophiria alerted simultaneously, banging on the barrier with her left hand.

Zophiria began to panic so she paced back and forth inhaling and exhaling in thought.

Okay, new discovery, a new flower born can walk straight through... Impenetrable barriers!" She forcefully screamed in anger, resulting in her voice cracking.

Pep talking herself Zophiria thought deeply about the matter at hand: "Calm down, Zophiria. What would Elder Ihathir do in a situation like this?"

Peering at the IV on the ground, seeping of Seran's spiritual power on the other end of the IV, Zophiria grinned spiritedly. She had come up with a brilliant plan.

If I can't exit why not imitate someone who can," she said, resting both her hands on her hips with a smile.

She picked up the IV curling it into a knotted u -shape to keep the fluids inside. Zophiria went back into her bag rummaging for an item that could be of use.

"This will be useful, "she self-assured, inspecting the vacutainer in her hand.

She opened the container of the blood bottle and undid the knot in the IV filling it with some of Seran's spiritual essence.

By the Oracle's blessing, I hope this works. Zophiria sighed tiresomely.
