Chapter 6 - A MESSAGE

It was morning as he sat upright from his bed, he peeped at the window, the morning sun glistening off the sky, shinning through his window.

His phone beeps, it was a message from the police ward, he had been invited over for questioning.

The pitter pattering of the water coming from the bathroom, Dripping down his body. He stroked his hair backwards with both hands.

He grabbed hold of his towel, the shrieking sound from the kettle. Dylan turned off the gas, taking off the kettle from the gas burner, he poured some water into the tea cup, sprinkling a small quantity of black tea into the cup. He stirred with a spoon. Having few sips, all dressed up, he left for the police ward.

Dylan answered the call, finding himself in the waiting area, with chairs, a flag, a statuary. A map of New York City and a rotary club plaques. He observed the area quietly.

He knew why he was there, to attest concerning Cole's murder. Dylan was ushered in to be interviewed by a detective.

Dylan stood in front of a man in his mere fifties, he could see him as a man who was a quintessential tough guy, definitely described as the hard-boiled detective from his physical appearance.

"I am Detective Mark Crownwell."

He could see his tag, inscribed with his name. Dylan sat on one of the chairs opposite him.

"So?"

"Did you and the deceased share a close relationship?"

"He was my best friend."

"Well, I understand the grief but.."

"Any news on him?"

"We are still working on that, you know you didn't get to say a word on the day of the incident. Having it you weren't ready."

"Well, I am now."

After much interrogation and conversations, Dylan found his way out. Walking pass an enclosed area marked by a fixed boundary, guessing that must be the prison yard.

He walked up the stairs, going for his room door. Dylan now halfway, looked over at Alexa's. He walked over, knocking on her door.

It opened revealing Alexa in a yellow flora dress, she wondered what brought him to her. After a week of no conversation, still she found herself letting him in.

"I guess you are..."

Dylan interrupted her with a kiss, it came so sudden that she did expect it.

"I'm sorry."

Alexa smiled, this was what she wanted. An assurance that he wanted her just the same way she wanted him but they are going to be taking things slow.

"So?" Alexa smiled

"Dinner at my place, 9pm?"

"You never added dinner dates to your approaches."

Both chuckled, she was right. Dylan himself never thought about that, now he was fully aware that he has been wrong with the whole flirting.

"My bad, so do you accept my offer."

"Hmm! I have to get a dress and you get the meal done."

It was a Yes, at last. Things has changed for a second. Dylan felt happy for once after weeks of torment and no rest in finding Cole's killer.
