Chereads / Love in the Apocalypse / Chapter 12 - Wrong Trust

Chapter 12 - Wrong Trust

If he were still the same Edmond as before, I would definitely tell him because I trusted him. I was filled with panic about this world, mainly due to being in constant survival mode, nerves constantly stretched.

But the current Edmond, I would never tell him. The strings in my mind would tighten even more because of him!

"Sighted Zombie Horde ahead." Suddenly, a pleasant mechanical female voice echoed from within the spaceship, also catching Edmond's attention.

What on earth was a Zombie Horde?! Clearly, it didn't seem like a good thing. Danger lurked everywhere in this world!

"Activate the protective shield." The pilot gave the order.

"Alright. Protective shield activated."

The pilot turned to Edmond, "Your Highness, there's a large number of zombies, it won't be easy to handle."

Edmond narrowed his eyes slightly, a smile playing on his lips, "Then, let's give them some bait."

The pilot's expression tensed, and he quickly turned back, his back still somewhat tense, as if he greatly feared the current Edmond.

Edmond turned his face back and looked at me with a cold smile, "Actually, I quite admire you, Yvette Washington, and you're clean."

"Tch." I turned my face away.

"But, for the safety of the people on Silvermoon City, I cannot bring a suspicious person back..." I turned my face back, staring at him coldly. He raised his hand and placed it on the armrest beside him, "Silvermoon City." With that, he pressed a button.

"Swoosh!" A shield suddenly fell in front of me, enclosing my entire seat in this egg-shaped capsule! My seat turned into a cabin!

What's going on?!

I looked at him in surprise through the shield, but he had a hint of regret in his expression. With one hand supporting his face, he looked more like a cold and indifferent audience watching an execution, "As long as you tell the truth, are willing to be loyal to our Silvermoon City, and leave your original master, I will take you away. Although you're not a person with abilities, nor a girl, someone with courage and wit like you, who also knows about surface plants, is not common. Silvermoon City needs talents like you. How about it? It's not too late to say now." He looked at me leisurely, as if he was convinced that I would tell the truth.

"Your Highness, the zombie horde is getting closer!" The pilot urgently reminded.

Edmond's gaze narrowed, and he was still waiting for me. I turned my face aside, not wanting to look at him anymore.

"I'll wait for you to change your mind," Edmond said.

I glared at him coldly, and Edmond pressed another button on the armrest.

"Ejection ready!" Suddenly, the female voice from the spacecraft rang out.

Ejection? What was ejection?!"Thump!" Before I could react, my entire seat was ejected from the spaceship. Edmond's face showed a hint of regret as he quickly disappeared from my sight. In the blink of an eye, the capsule was soaring into the sky, and I was rapidly distancing myself from the spaceship. I was wrapped in silence.

At the same time, I saw a mysterious creature not far from the spaceship, a dark mass resembling a flock of crows. Their size was much larger than crows, and it seemed like they had spotted me. They swiftly ascended, resembling a swarm of wasps charging towards me under the lead of their queen. The entire mass of creatures passed over Edmond's spaceship, covering it beneath the black cloud they formed.

I suddenly understood what Edmond meant by bait.

Dad used to say, "Outside, don't easily trust other people's tears, because they might be crocodile tears." Similarly, don't easily trust other people's smiles, as they might be a snake's smile.

In the equally dangerous environment, I had easily trusted Edmond because we were both trapped in a cage, which made me lower my guard against him. He eliminated my suspicion with a pair of straw sandals and gained my trust easily with his care. His consistently sincere attitude towards Campbell Russell led me to believe that he was a good person, and Campbell Russell seemed somewhat unapproachable.

Only at this moment did I realize who the good person was and who the snake that bit me truly was.

The snake told me that if I told the truth, he would treat me well, but I dared not trust the words of a snake. I couldn't tell him that I came from another world, and I certainly couldn't tell him that I, Yvette Washington, was actually a girl.

My ejection seat pierced through the azure sky, and the enormous moon appeared before my eyes. The entire seat began to rotate, and during the rotation, I saw the distant Silvermoon City suspended in the air. It was beautiful, and at this moment, I was a bit closer to it. The lights on it became clearer, and I faintly saw a vast expanse of green, like a forest.

The monsters also soared into the sky with me. In the moonlight, their skin emitted a bright blue glow."Aooo—!" Suddenly, a terrifying face appeared right outside my round window – sharp teeth, a black tongue, a pair of pale eyes resembling moonstone, with an eerie white glow! It was one of those monsters!

"Ah!" I was startled, instinctively leaning backward, my hands pressed against the armrest. I heard a "click" sound, but I wasn't sure which button I had pressed.

"Thrusters engaged!" The mechanical female voice suddenly spoke.

Thrusters? What was that? All of a sudden, I heard a roaring sound, and my capsule was rapidly propelled forward, charging into the midst of those monsters.

"Bang! Crash! Boom!" I collided head-on with those monsters. They were densely packed, and I felt like a hummingbird mistakenly entering a swarm of wasps. My capsule violently shook due to the impact, accompanied by continuous crashing sounds.

Suddenly, the entire capsule lit up with red lights. "Thruster damage, thruster damage." The alarms rang out repeatedly, increasing the sense of panic.

What? The thrusters were damaged?!Immediately, the capsule paused for a moment, and then it began to plummet.

"Ah—!" My internal organs felt like they were being lifted into my stomach, and the discomfort was beyond words. Fortunately, the bottom of the capsule seemed to be heavier, preventing it from tumbling during the descent. It fell straight down like a vertical drop tower in an amusement park!

"Ka!" Suddenly! A sharp claw pierced through my side. I looked in horror at the claw that had penetrated my seat, razor-sharp like a knife.

"Ka!" Another sound, and another claw penetrated my other side! I twisted my head back in horror, only to see a monster pressed against the transparent shield in front of me! It had caught me! No, wait... it seemed to be a she!

Because her chest was pressed against the shield in front of me, really... with an incredibly large chest! And she was wearing clothes! Tattered cloth wrapped around her chest, revealing other pale-blueish skin.

She seemed to be using her limbs to anchor herself to my capsule, and behind her were a pair of wings. However, one of the wings appeared to be crooked and bent. Was it broken due to colliding with my capsule? Following her body upwards, I saw her neck and her face!

It was a face quite similar to a human's, with distinct facial features. However, like the other monsters I had seen, her eyes were completely white, her skin had a bluish tint under the moonlight, and it was tight as if stretched. Her ears were slightly pointed, and she had long white hair.

At this moment, she was using her transparent eyes to look at me through the glass cover. I didn't know if these eyes could see, but I could feel that she was watching me.
