Chapter 6 - 6

On behalf of Thomas Wilson, half an hour before the incident in the park...

Today was a pretty tough shift. The patient was brought in at about two o'clock in the morning. The patient looked quite remarkable.

A pale aristocratic face framed by long black hair. He wore an old-fashioned outfit that looked like it came straight out of a nineteenth-century history textbook. High boots, old-fashioned suit and robe. All this would look comical if the clothes were not covered in blood. The right hand has lacerations, as if it had been chewed by a large predator. His face was scratched and there was a cut across his body, as if he had been cut with a very sharp blade.

We brought it from a local park. He lost a lot of blood. He needs urgent surgery and blood transfusion. Together with our assistants, we fought for his life for five hours and still managed to snatch him from the clutches of death.

And of course, the misfortunes did not end there. Paperwork needed to be completed. And this share fell to me by lot. Having filled out the documents, everything except the name and address, I went home with a clear conscience, because Sarah and Calder were waiting for me.

After the birth of my son, everything began to move incredibly quickly. It seems that he has only just been born, but he is already crawling at such a speed that it is impossible to keep up with him. Very active (though not as active as other children his age). Calder was simply a model child - calm, did not require much attention, and did not cry for no reason. Yes, what can I say. Four months after birth, we could leave him alone in a room with a 100% guarantee that nothing would happen.

We suffered through truth and fears together with Sarah. The son was little emotional. We took him to the doctors, we were afraid that he had "emotional dullness" syndrome, but everything turned out okay. Sarah was worried that it was her fault, but I, together with the doctors, managed to calm her down. This is not the wife's fault.

Oh Sarah, she loves Calder. Just like a wolf. My wolf...

I arrived home around ten o'clock in the morning. After driving the car into the garage, I went into the house. In the kitchen I noticed a note from Sarah saying that she and Calder had gone for a walk in the park. I immediately remembered today's patient. I have a bad feeling about something.

Just thinking about this, I heard a bang in the living room. Turning my head, I saw Sarah with Calder's head peeking over her shoulder, and within a radius of two steps from them all the furniture flew off.

After standing in a stupor for about five seconds, I ran up to the people dearest to me. Only when I ran up to them did I see that Calder had fallen asleep.

- Sarah, Sarah! "How did you end up here?" I asked and put my hand on her shoulder.

- Sarah, what's wrong with you?

My wife was shaking violently. Turning her towards me, I saw a grimace of fear on my wife's face.

— Sarah, what happened?

- Tom, how are you here... are we at home? "She looked around her surroundings with a dazed look.

- Stop. Calm down. Now let me tell you everything from the very beginning. Sit down on the sofa, I'll bring you some tea, and you put Calder to bed so he can sleep.

While I went to the kitchen and prepared tea, Sarah calmed down, put Calder to bed and waited for me on the sofa, although slight tremors still ran through her body. As soon as I gave her a cup of tea, she began her story.

Every word I said to her made my hair stand on end. A pack of dogs in that very park attacked my family, and no one helped them. After the story I was shaking myself. How scary it is that this happened to my family.

- How did you end up here?

"I don't know, Tom," Sarah answered.

"At that moment I prayed to the gods, the devils, if only they would protect our son, and then I felt warmth. Then everything started spinning, everything blurred before my eyes, there was a noise in my ears, and the next moment I realized myself when you called out.

I didn't know what to think. What happened? Did the gods intervene? Demons? Or is it magic? I don't know. After some time, I told Sarah about my patient. After talking some more, we decided to ask the strange-looking man about this situation. You never know he'll tell us something.

12 hours after the incident in the park, Calder...

It took me a long time to come to my senses. My mind swam between sleep and reality for about half an hour. As soon as I came to my senses, I felt tired. Very tired and brutally hungry. Realizing that if I didn't eat anything now, I wouldn't need to eat anymore, I started crying to call my parents.

Literally a minute later Sarah came into my room and began to calm me down. After some time, she exposed her breasts and started feeding me.

After eating, I pretended to be asleep and Sarah, putting me in my place, quietly left the room. As soon as she left, I entered a state of meditation.

Having examined my soul, I saw changes:

1) My second shell is depleted, but the rate of prana production has increased. This leads to certain thoughts that require confirmation.

2) My seventh beginning has finished forming in the head and "brain" area. And interesting processes take place there. Well, let's start with the fact that the channels are formed. This is good. Second, they release some of the magic into my flesh, what effect this will have in the future is unknown. Also, through the channels that have formed, mana from the outside world enters my core, which contributes to its development.

3) My fifth start has become even more eventful. One fourth approximately the original value. This is good.

From all this I came up with a theory. Perhaps children have a spontaneous release of energy due to emotions. This was described by the fact that the children were unable to control their magic. Based on this I have a theory.

Maybe these are the laws of this world or all worlds in general, but everyone has the seventh shell. It gradually "sprouts" in the body in order to make it possible to use mana. And when at least one channel is formed, a release occurs during a stressful situation. This is an indicator of magical abilities (at least in this world; the same theory is confirmed (but not completely) in the Archmage universe. There, young neophytes are initially taught to absorb mana from some source. Most likely, this mana goes to form a mana channel to nucleus, if it has not yet formed). Why aren't they taught to control mana after the first release? But because it is partially useless. During the growth process, channels continue to form, and because of this, the amount of mana supplied from the external environment to the core increases, which leads to an increase in the young magicians' own power.

And children will not have to re-learn how to control mana every time. They are restless. If there is such an individual, then he could direct mana to further development with greater efficiency. Well, since I have nothing better to do, let's start implementing this theory.

But this is all a theory built on speculation. I hope in the future I will find either confirmation or refutation of my theory.

In the end, no matter what is done, everything is for the better, right?..
