Grandpa Tai was deliberately loud. He was also proud and not at all ashamed even when he found himself on the receiving end of some harsh glares.
He returned the harsh glares with a bold look that was filled with provocativeness. If anybody dared to contradict him, he was willing to match them toe to toe in an argument where he would explain all the reasons why his only granddaughter was going to be the winner.
Grandma Zhang in the meantime saw madam Joy and her son who waved at her. She smiled back at him softly.
"Excuse me for a minute, I see a familiar face and I should say hello."
She walked away while auntie Mo was shaking Alix awake carefully and whispering her name. She didn't want to startle her by waking her up so rudely.
Just as Alix was starting to blink and open her eyes, a sound came from the television which was mounted high up on the wall. Auntie Mo's hand dropped and she turned around quickly.
