Maggie sighed. "It's the same pitch their watchers give every system host they want to entice, old or new. They promise glory and grandeur and then make you do a whole lot of dirty work in order to trap you. Everyone on the dark side has taken the life of an innocent person, it's like their initiation ritual. They keep such evidence and bring it out if you try to leave. It can be leaked on the internet, sent to the police or your loved ones, leaving you with no way out but death, usually at your own hands or hiding for the rest of your life."
The more Phoebe heard, the angrier she became. "I am wise enough to see through those snake oil salesmen they are but others that are naive and they will easily buy into their shit. Their goals are dangerous and their methods are worse."
