"Would you like some coffee?" Headmaster Draven was preparing herself a cup of coffee, pouring in a bit of MooMoo Milk and BonBon Sugar Cubes. With the curtains open, beams of light poured through the glass window, students walked by her office, a lot of them were chatting with their Operators, asking them all sorts of questions.
"Sure, I will take my black." Micah was staring out the window, watching the students, it seems like she had something on her mind but she kept it to herself, she has always been the type to be lost in thought.
"I could never drink it just like that, you are what the kids say built different eh?" Latina grabbed a mug for her and poured her coffee, she put her cup on the table and then sat down on her chair. The creamy and sweet taste mixed together with the coffee could never be beat, she never understood how people could drink the coffee without condiments but she wasn't the type to judge others for how they enjoy their beverages.
Micah picked up her coffee and sipped on it, still looking out the window. "Why do you think she choose this route to go? I think Operators are unnecessary in these times, Valkyrie are the only things Commanders need." She slightly adjusts her fox ears as if she is trying to listen to what the students are talking about with the Operators.
"You know how the Goddess is, she is always making strange moves and she is always two steps ahead in her crazy plans." said Latina.
"I think...she is doing this because she is desperate."
"How so?"
"Humans are the source of her power, the Gods need worshippers in order to maintain their powers without them, they become weak and vulnerable making them easy to target and kill. The lack of humans because they can't reproduce male children scares them. I know they are looking for the men who can give them human children. Every child born is always female and that means she grows up to be a Valkyrie, not a human."
"I think that is a normal thing for a goddess to do no?"
"That is not the part I have a problem with, the problem I foresee is what happens when they do find the men that can produce male children. Will the rest of the men be discarded?"
"That just sounds really crazy."
"Latina... the mortality rate of males who graduated this school is 95%, that means only 5% survive, which means that 5 percent must have some kind of potential only they can see. They don't even mourn for the dead, almost like they don't see men as humans but cattle."
"You know that kind of thinking could get you arrested and worse hanged. You are my best friend so you need to be careful talking about these kind of things, the walls in this school have eyes and ears everywhere."
"I know that, I just want to discover the truth to why males die at birth, this has to be some kind of curse or disease we can't see or understand, don't you want to protect your students as well?"
"Of course I do, this is my school and I love my students, I want them all to have a good life and bond with each other, I just don't know why they die at birth, I hope they can figure it out soon."
"If she gets too desperate, she will go after Nexus and when she does it could start a Galactic War that the universe has never seen before. It could end all life as we know it, I am just curious though, when that happens whose side will you be on? The Goddesses or The humans? You don't have to answer that right now, just think about everything that has happened these past months."
Micah finishes her cup of coffee and puts on her turncoat and fedora then heads to the door. "Thank you for the coffee old friend, we shall keep in touch, I hope we can talk like this again."
"Oh! I almost forgot to ask you, what did you do to that Hunter who attacked you in your room?"
"Me...well I didn't do anything, the Moon Knights came soon after and took her away, my best guess is they interrogated her to see what information they could turn up. She is most likely dead already, you know how brutal she can get against those who defy her rule and what she calls peace. Well I need to get going Latina— I got detective work to do, my job as a freelancer is never done see ya later!"
Headmaster Draven continues to drink her coffee quietly in her chair, looking out the window at her students. She hates war, violence and death, this school was always known for peace and love that is how her mother envisioned this Academy, that is how she kept it when she was in charge long ago but now there has been nothing but problems.
"Oh mother, what should I do? I hope I can protect this school like you did." she picks up a picture she had on her desk and looks at it. Two women who look similar are standing together looking at the camera smiling, it must be Latina and her mother because when she looks at the image, she is reminded of more kinder and peaceful times. "I won't give up hope for this place, I will protect it like you did, I promise you!"
