Andrew poured a glass of water for Holly and placed it directly in front of her on the living room table.
"So, you're saying the police are onto us?" Holly asked seemingly unimpressed before taking a sip of her drink.
"Yeah… it seems like it." Andrew said, throwing himself onto the couch next to her.
"Oh, well… they'll never be able to trace it back to us, anyway! Not with the cause of death being impossible to figure out!" Holly said with sweat creeping down her brow, "Besides, we already did what we had to do… All we can do now is keep going. No use in worrying about being caught for this time."
"Yeah, you're right." Andrew said, sipping his drink, "We just gotta be careful…"
Silence filled the air. Andrew looked up at the ceiling fan of his living room. He locked his eyes on one of the blades and followed it around and around in circles. He always did this when he was nervous.
"Hey… Holly!" Andrew said before feeling an overwhelming sense of dread.
"What's up?" She replied without skipping a beat.
"So… At the funeral… I talked with the guys… and we thought that maybe it would be a good idea for the four of us to go on a trip together. Ya know, as a sort of tribute to Marcus." Andrew said as if he was speaking to a hungry lion.
"Okay… I'll give it some thought." Holly replied.
"I wasn't asking!"
Holly dug her nails into her legs.
"Yeah, okay. You're right. That would probably be for the best. So that we can avoid suspicion." Holly said, staring at the ground.
"Why would that help us avoid suspicion?"
"I meant for Marcus." Holly replied.
"For Marcus? But we had nothing to do with that… Wait a second. That suitor at the party… things didn't work out with him, right? So, how did you get your thirteen days?"
"Are-... Are you accusing me of killing Marcus?" Holly yelled.
"No… of course not! I just… I don't know… it just crossed my mind, that's all." Andrew said softly.
"I had nothing to do with it…" The lie came out of Holly's mouth so effortlessly.
"Yeah… I know. Sorry, … it was ridiculous for me to even think that…"
"Yeah, you better be!" Holly looked at the clock and noticed it was half past midnight, "I got class in the morning. I'm gonna head home."
"Drive safe…" Andrew replied.
"Thanks." Holly got up and left.
Later that night, Andrew lied in bed unable to sleep. His mind was racing. Many thoughts swirled in his head for hours before he could get to sleep, but somehow they all seemed to mean the same thing. Holly would never…would she?
