"Like the birds and the bees?" asked Hajime curiously.
"No not that. Um, how do I phrase this delicately? How do I explain this? Umm." Aurora mumbled and she averted her gaze to the window.
Sakura tilted her head.
"Huh? Mommy, what's the talk?" asked Sakura.
Aurora continued mumbling. She struggled to find the right words to describe the topic.
"Mom, what is it?"
"Just tell Daddy," Sakura said.
"How do you expect me to say this," Aurora said.
Aurora sighed and decided to blurt it out.
"Hajime, your relationship with floraliths is extremely important. Not just for our society but for the survival of the human race. Sakura is vital and precious. That's why if you were ever to have sex with her—"
"Wha- Wait, wait, wait," Hajime interrupted, "Who said anything about sex!"
"Yeah, mom. What's sex, is it delicious." asked the innocent little girl.
Aurora's cheeks turned red.
"If you have sex with a floralith you'll end up just like Doctor Arthur," Aurora said.
"What, what does that even mean," Hajime said.
"Doctor Arthur was the first person to ever discover the existence of a Floralith. He found a rare specimen that was unlike any other plant or creature. It was a bipedal girl around his height, she could speak perfectly and she ate human food," Aurora sighed.
"Being the genius he was, he concluded it was a new race and documented his research."
"So Doctor Arthur loved the girl?"
"Not exactly. After spending so much time studying the girl, he became enraptured by her. Eventually, he couldn't control his urges and he tried to do...that. First, his body went through intense pain and convulsions. Then he died. So now the royal families forbid humans from having sex with a Floralith and vice versa."
"But daddy can touch me?" asked Sakura.
"That's an interesting question," said Aurora with a bright tingle in her eyes.
"Mom, don't look at me like that." pleaded Sakura.
"Look at you like what honey?" asked Aurora with a small smile.
"Your eyes are glowing Mom, just like a cat ready to pounce," Hajime said.
"Don't worry the tests will be perfectly safe." declared Aurora.
"Define safe," said Hajime
"Safe is relative, darling."
"Umu. Context is everything," added Sakura.
"Mom, are newborns supposed to be this smart?"
"That's a good question, darling,"
"Don't dodge the question, Mom," Hajime said, rolling his eyes.
"Let's run some tests then!"
Sakura reached up and touched Hajime's head. A pink aura appeared around the tip of her finger.
"What are you doing Sakura?" asked Hajime.
Sakura leaned closer to Hajime and he could feel the warmth emanating from her body. He could smell the subtle scent of oleander.
"I want to see if I can use Daddy's mana," Sakura explained.
"What?" Aurora asked.
"What?" Hajime repeated.
Aurora grabbed a notebook from a shelf and started writing furiously.
"Sakura, this is amazing. This could change everything,"
"Ahh, it's not working," Sakura said, tapping the end of her finger on Hajime's head.
"Maybe Daddy is defective,"
"Hey, I'm not defective," said Hajime, annoyed at her comments.
"Well, I can't use your mana, so you must be broken."
"Why don't you go play in the garden or something," Hajime tried shooing her away.
"I'm not letting you off the hook that easily," said Sakura, holding onto Hajime's shirt.
"Don't be so needy."
"Don't be so rude," Sakura said, jumping at him.
Hajime caught her.
"Don't be so demanding."
"Sakura does um, daddy have mana?" asked Aurora.
Aurora watched with bated breath, eager for the reply.
"Hmm, Daddy definitely has mana. But for some reason, I can't absorb it," Sakura said with a little frown.
"That's weird, children should awaken mana when they're 10 or older, not 8," muttered Aurora.
"I think it's because I'm special," Hajime said, puffing up his chest.
"Haha, that's a good one Daddy. Nobody is as special as me."
Sakura lifted her chin high in the air.
"Hajime stop teasing Sakura. Let's take him down to the basement to get tested."
"The basement?" Hajime said.
"Affirmative."
"Huh, what kind of tests?"
"We're gonna experiment on Daddy!" Sakura said.
"Mom, I think it's illegal to do whatever you're going to do to me right?"
Hajime muttered 'please' repeatedly under his breath.
"Illegality is subjective," answered Aurora.
"Mom's right," Sakura giggled.
Hajime felt helpless against these two crazy women. He reflexively put his hand on his butt.
"No butt stuff okay?"
Aurora blinked, "What is that supposed to mean?"
"Um, just no butt stuff," repeated Hajime.
"I'm afraid I don't understand, sweetie."
"Don't stick anything in my bum?"
"Why would I stick anything in your bum, Hajime?"
Hajime's ears turned red.
"Daddy wants butt stuff?" Sakura questioned.
"NO!"
"Honey, what are you implying? Don't tell me you've seen pornography," Aurora gasped with wide eyes.
Hajime whistled, "What's pornography Mommy?"
"Daddy's lying," said Sakura, her eyes flashing red for a second.
"Can you tell when someone's lying Sakura?" Aurora leaned forward.
"No, I felt it in my roots."
"That's fascinating, I'll add that to my report," said Aurora as she continued to scribble in her notebook.
"But I need to take a bath first," Aurora said.
"You just got home mom, don't you usually take baths at night?" Hajime asked.
"I always take one before a major experiment. It calms my nerves."
The hairs on his neck stood up. Hajime felt a sudden chill.
'Doctors shouldn't be nervous,' he thought.
"Mom, if you're nervous we shouldn't do this. It might be dangerous."
"Honey, trust me, I've done this countless times."
"On unsuspecting 8 year olds?"
"Umm, no."
A lightbulb went off in Hajime's head as he believed he deserved a reward for being experimented on.
"Mommy I'm nervous too!"
"Okay, we can bathe together."
She picked Hajime up and carried him to the bathroom, while a little flower followed silently after them.
