Chapter 14 - Demons (Vampires)

We partied for two or 3 hours before I was taken away by my father to sit with him on the house's back porch. We sat on the edge of the wooden floor.

I looked up to view the moon, its light brightened the backyard the cold night breeze caressing my cheeks.

"Here," he said, his hand holding an o-choko sake cup. On his other side, a bottle of sake stood along with another cup. "You're old enough to go travel, get into trouble, lose fights, and start some bar fights. Just remember you got a home here if you want to come back when you feel it's getting to be too much."

I held the cup up fitting my middle and ring finger around the bottom stem held the cup lightly between my index and thumb.

Having a drink with my dad, it is the first I share with him... it's nice.

He turned and picked up the other cup and the bottle, With his teeth he removed the cork on the bottle, a fruity and floral aroma spread from the opening.

He spit the cork out to one side and poured some in my cup first, then his. "Ordered this from Lorel Union a month ago." He placed the bottle in between us,.

He raised his cup and looked at me, I followed suit. We took a moment, then drew the cups to our mouths to drink. The sake filled my mouth with an apple-like flavor before the heat of alcohol hit my stomach. My lips didn't separate from the cup until it was empty.

My father giggled, his cup only half empty. "You might turn into quite the drinker, pace yourself." He took a little sip from his cup and lifted the bottle to refill both of our cups.

I took a small sip and looked up at the moon I closed my eyes and enjoyed the cold air fighting against the heat of the drink warming up my body.

"Do you still want to travel the world?" He asked after a brief moment of silence.

"Yeah." I replied, taking another sip, "Places like ruins, of old kingdoms, forgotten history, and new history along with the conflicts that make it. All of it just calls to me." Focusing on the changes inside my body I let a heavy breath leave my lungs taking some of the heat warming me up. "I'm not extremely passionate about it but I probably will help me find something that will light a fire under me."

"Good, you do have to find something to dedicate yourself to, and going out to find is smart." He took a sip of his drink, "But what about adventuring in the wasteland?"

"Fighting out there is mainly to get myself stronger. But I at some point, want to go as deep as the wasteland goes. It hides something and I want to know what."

"Lilith," a second after calling her, she appeared out of the dark, her palms up with a bottle of sake on them. "Where is Rin?

"She fell asleep after 1 cup of sake." A small 'oh' came from my father's mouth, he gave her a small nod and turned back to look at the garden. Giving us a little bow she left back into the shadows.

"Mother is a lightweight huh, kind of surprising actually. I thought she needed barrels to douse the fire she was burning a while back."

"Got a lot more drinks waiting, you are only allowed to go to sleep when you pass out." He poured more into our empty cups. "Oh and out there in the wasteland, you will find more and more powerful monsters, I haven't gone deep enough to encounter anything I couldn't beat, except, I did find something I could only fight to a standstill or so I would like to say but truth be told it was just playing with me."

"Must be something extremely strong to push you like that." His story of the wasteland intrigued me.

"He must have been a demi-human, his skin was pale white with tattoos all over his body." We kept drinking the sake without minding how fast we were finishing it. "He wore baggy white pants with a vest and no shoes or something to keep the heat on that cold night. His head had pink spiky hair and where normally one has a white selera, his was a light gray with dark veins leading to his yellow Iris. A symbol rested in the middle of his eyes, it could be numbers or a name I don't know. It's actually good your mother was there to pull me back from near death." Once he finished the bottle new one appeared beside him.

By that point, the ground was swinging from side to side like being on a ship in turbulent waters. Tomorrow morning is not going to be fun.

My father much like me had to lean on the wall framing the door that led to the living room so we did not fall somehow.

"It...he I think it was a he, even a Nichirin blade had trouble cutting his skin. We fought most of the night, every wound I made healed almost instantly while I had to fight wounded or drink a healing potion when I pushed him back." Lifting the bottle for a refill he paused when he found it too light and decided to drink the last bit in the bottle. "There are actually creatures like that in all the kingdoms, they have a kind of blood magic that boosts their base abilities plus the magic effect."

He paused his drinking, "Of course, the one I fought didn't even use it." His eye had a faraway look, "Your mother and I were part of an organization that hunts those creatures. There were 2 ways to kill them, decapitation with a Nichirin Blade and Sunlight. But for some reason, I doubt he would die of decapitation."

I refilled both our cups and drained mine again Imagining fighting them, it reminded me of Demon Slayer but it couldn't be we were in another anime world, but then again Tifa was here and I was using the breathing style Tanjiro used. With those facts in mind, I no longer had Tomokis horn-dog with a fucking brainwashing eye to deal with but also, if those 2 were included with all their problems, the demon king of pop and 'the chosen one' Sephiroth.

My mind was running itself into knots thanks to being inebriated, I took one more drink before everything went black.

Obitos POV

My son's head fell to the side letting me know he reached his limit. My drinking slowed to take a sip as I stared at the moon losing myself in a memory of the encounter back then.

My katana was firmly embedded on the ground holding my weight as I leaned on it. Blood dripped down my face, my right eye was shut and swollen thanks to a hook that connected there, and bruises all over my body. My body was overtaxed thanks to fighting most of the night, every breath I took was pure agony meanwhile my opponent looked brand new. Every cut I inflicted on him was healed the next instant, and he never seemed to get tired. Nausea wanted to overtake due to too much use of magic.

The bodies of all my Slayer squad made a circle around us. Their bodies were torn apart or missing chunks but without exception all of them were dead. Some of them were charred with some flames licking at the darkness around them holding it back.

"It is not too late! Become one of us and leave behind that weak and fragile hyuman body!!" The demon, or vampire had an expression of despair like he was about to lose his favorite toy.

A fire brid races from behind me and lands on his face. "Oh more is still alive?" His focus moved to the person behind me. "You look weak, how did you survive? Played dead? No wee you wouldn't be able to deceive our eyes."

"Or... perhaps I am stronger than I look." A soft voice came from the other survivor, my mind conjured an image of a young woman but It could have sounded like that thanks to being tired. "The fight isn't over. 'Heal'" Soothing energy ran over my over-taxed muscles, removing most of the fatigue and making breathing less painful. A moment later the sound of a body hitting the ground reached my ears.

Stabilizing my breathing and getting my trembling muscles under control I stood up and lifted my katana to take a stance. "I'm still in the fight, let's finish this." What occupied my mind at the time was not to win the fight and kill it but to survive a little more time, and stall the fight enough for the sun to come out.

"You are about to reach it, you're on the cusp, the cliff, the EDGE!!!! One more push and you will attain the skill I have desired for so long! Reach it and demonstrate it to me!" His eyes reached a manic look, his lips formed a crescent across his face.
