Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: Excellent results

Ayla tidied up a bit and went to the nearest Internet cafe. She didn't own a phone or a laptop, so she could only go to the Internet cafe to use the computers there. Well, she wanted to check and see what she had scored. Her heart thumped in her chest as she took a seat before the computer. Even though she knew she was a capable and bright student at school, she didn't want to be all hopeful and confident until she saw her results.

After taking a few deep breaths, she keyed in her registration number and waited as the system loaded.

She braced herself and took a look at the screen . She immediately covered her mouth so she wouldn't scream out loud. She actually scored an A? Even though she usually came in first or second in the exams , she never expected that she would perform so marvellous. Especially not when she was in pain while doing the exams. She really had to thank the heavens. After paying for the service, she made her way home, still in a daze.

On her way home, Ayla couldn't help but smile. She was happy as she would get the chance to go to her dream campus. Moreover, she would shake off those bullies . What only worried her was how she was going to earn such a huge amount of money to pay for her campus fees. Even though she had extended her shift at work, she still couldn't earn enough money for her campus fees. However, she didn't give up hope yet. She planned on looking for another part-time job that she would be doing during the day after the night shift at the cafeteria. A motorbike almost hit her as she was in a daze, if it wasn't for a stranger's quick reflex of pulling her aside.

"Miss, be careful." The youth cautioned softly.

It was only then that Ayla came back to her senses. Her heart was thumping loudly in her chest from the trepidation she felt after death flashed before her.

"Thank you. I will." Ayla nodded at the stranger who had rescued her and thanked him before heading home, albeit this time more alert.

"Sir, the college entrance examination results are out." The assistant told the mysterious man who helped Ayla purchase medicine a few days ago.

"Oh." He nonchalantly replied. Which made the assistant shut up instantly. He knew when to stop as he was the one who understood his boss's temper better.

The mysterious man couldn't be bothered. He was busy setting questions for the continuous assessment tests that his students were supposed to do. How could he have the time to care about the goddamn results? He had a lot on his plate to handle already. He was a professor who taught students doing software engineering. He was currently setting questions for final year students.

"You may leave." The man told his assistant. He was feeling suffocated by his presence in his study.

"Yes, sir," the assistant touched his nose awkwardly and left. Was he really sending him away?

That evening, the moment Ayla arrived at work, she was surrounded by her workmates.

"Hi Ayla, we heard that the results are out. How did you score?" A male colleague asked after they exchanged pleasantries.

"Not bad." Ayla answered mysteriously with a smell.

When her colleagues saw that she was smiling, they could tell that she was in a good mood.

"What grade?" A cheeky colleague winked at her and pried.

"Uhm, an A." Ayla answered and left them there, speechless and gawking at her as though they had seen a ghost.

She actually scored an A?
