Raven realized that starting a new with Penelope was more complicated than anticipated. Their usual routine resumed, and he began his day by having breakfast with his wife in complete silence. He could feel Martha giving him encouraging looks to converse with Penelope. Unlike before, Penelope was distant and aloof, lost in her thoughts. Raven knew he had to make an effort if he wanted to rebuild the connection they once had. As they finished their breakfast, he cleared his throat, breaking the heavy silence between them.
"Are you free this weekend, Penny?" he asked.
Penelope lifted her face to look at him, wondering what her husband had in mind.
"Yes, I suppose I am," Penelope replied softly, her eyes meeting Raven's for the first time in what felt like ages.
Raven mustered the courage to suggest, "Why don't we take a short trip? Just you and me, like old times."
