Penelope could tell that Melody was wary of Raven's presence. Her younger sister kept her conversation with Raven short and forced, clearly uncomfortable with his intense gaze. Melody always maintained a polite distance from him, making Penelope wonder if her sister still hadn't accepted Raven as her new brother-in-law. Melody was supposed to marry Raven but ran away with Oscar on their wedding day. She must haven't anticipated that Penelope would marry in her place.
"I'm sorry, Penny." Melody apologized to Penelope one cloudy afternoon. They were having tea in their garden, and the roses their mother planted bloomed in vibrant splashes of pink and red around them.
Penelope studied her sister.
"Why are you apologizing to me again, Mel? Didn't I tell you I don't blame you for leaving?" She replied.
Melody bit her lip and sighed.
"You wouldn't have to marry Mr. Hendrix if I didn't run away."
