Lance's anger flared at Raven's taunting tone. He was determined not to let Raven's words affect him, but deep down, he knew they had struck a nerve. He clenched his jaw, trying to mask the turmoil of his emotions.
"I was trying to reach Penelope," Lance replied, his voice steady despite the tension in his chest.
"Penelope is asleep. She doesn't need any distractions," Raven retorted smoothly, his words dripping with possessiveness.
It was already late at night, and if Penelope had already been asleep, then why was she with Raven Hendrix? Lance wondered.
"I need to talk to her, Mr. Hendrix. It's important," Lance stated firmly, his tone brooking no argument.
There was a pause on the other end of the line before Raven spoke again, his voice colder this time.
