Mianne and James reached the upper cavern of the mountain, they noticed that it was more carefully constructed than the rough rocky walls below.
The decor had a slightly more comforting feel to it, although it was still within the heart of the enemy's stronghold.
"I hope Elowen is okay," Mianne voiced her concerns, her voice tinged with worry.
"We'll find her and make sure she's safe," James assured her, attempting to lift her spirits. "Sometimes, all it takes is a little hope to light the way in the darkest of times."
With James's comforting words, Mianne found a glimmer of hope in their dire situation. She smiled at him and nodded in agreement.
"You're right, James. We can't lose hope now. Let's keep moving forward," she said, determination filling her voice.
The two of them continued through the decorated cavern, determined to rescue Princess Elowen and bring her back to safety.
As Mianne and James approached the door in front of them, they began to notice blood seeping from the cracks around it.
They realized it was time to enter, and as they pushed the door open, a gruesome sight greeted them.
Mianne, who was behind James, couldn't help but gasp in horror as she covered her mouth with her hand.
The room was a scene of carnage, with the lifeless bodies of Glacial Vigorous members scattered everywhere.
Each of them bore giant claw marks and gaping holes in their stomachs, the gruesome aftermath of a violent encounter.
James clenched his fists as he surveyed the gruesome scene before them. The sight was unsettling, and the overpowering scent of blood hung in the air.
He turned to Mianne, concern etched on his face. "Mianne, stay close to me," he whispered, trying to shield her from the worst of the horrors.
"We need to be cautious. Whatever did this might still be around."
Mianne nodded, her eyes wide with shock, and they proceeded further into the room, their senses on high alert.
The mystery deepened as they tried to piece together what had happened in this blood-soaked chamber.
As James and Mianne walked down the bloody corridor, Mianne began to tremble in fear. James, concerned for her well-being, gently pulled her close for comfort.
"It's alright, Mianne. I promise I'll make sure you won't have to see this kind of sight again," James reassured her, determination in his eyes.
Mianne nodded, finding solace in his presence, and her trembling gradually subsided.
Suddenly, smoke billowed out from the area, engulfing them in an ominous haze. James instinctively shielded Mianne, his grip on her hand tightening.
Within the smoky veil, a massive clawed gauntlet materialized, slashing at James with incredible force. He was sent hurtling into another room with a yelp of pain.
"JAMES!" Mianne cried out, but before she could react, a colossal red-furred hand covered her mouth, swiftly lifting her into the adjoining room.
The two of them were now forcibly separated, their fate uncertain.

James's body crashed into a stack of crates in the training room, causing him to wince in pain. He gingerly examined his right arm, which bore a significant claw wound.
Surveying his surroundings, he realized he had landed in the stronghold's training room.
Among the wreckage, a training dummy lay on top of him, the result of his abrupt crash.
With great effort, James lifted the training dummy off himself.
Just as he was beginning to assess his situation, a figure approached him, it was creating a metal clank with every step.
It was Cefie, accompanied by a Glacial Vigorous knight who appeared unnaturally lifeless, like a puppet.
"You are James Woodheart, and you are marked for extermination," the robotic voice declared. James, bewildered and alarmed, demanded answers.
"Who are you, and what do you want from us?" he shouted in frustration.
Cefie, the robotic figure, responded calmly, "The questions you pose are simple, as questions tend to be for humans. We are here to obtain your moon charm and the baby pinecone dragon in your possession."
James was taken aback by the intelligence of the robot. He refused to cooperate, adamantly declaring, "No way! I won't hand them over to you!"
In response, Cefie grabbed James, preventing him from escaping. With a cold and emotionless tone, Cefie signaled the lifeless knight to take action. The knight retrieved a yellow cartridge and pressed a button on its front.
"T-T-T-THUNDER BIRD," voices emanated from the cartridge. The knight then stabbed itself with it, screaming in agony as purple flames enveloped it.
It transformed into a colossal metallic bird, crackling with electricity and glaring menacingly at James.
James gazed at the formidable Thunderbird with a mixture of shock and trepidation. The colossal creature unleashed a deafening roar that shook the room.
As the Thunderbird made a swooping attempt to snatch James up, he agilely dodged its grasp.
"Come on, birdie, calm down!" James pleaded as he narrowly evaded the creature's ferocious beak strikes.
Realizing he needed to fight back, James decided to unleash his SwampPurger rune. He deftly opened the halberd's lid and inserted the rune, activating its power.
"SWAMP PURGER!" the voice from the rune announced. James's left arm underwent a dramatic transformation, morphing into Swamp Purger—a monstrous amalgamation of amphibians and vines.
With his old power at his disposal, James was ready to face the Thunderbird.
The Thunderbird attempted another pecking attack, but this time, a resilient vine surged forth, coiling around the bird's neck and immobilizing it.
As James exerted control over his abilities, Cefie observed the unfolding battle, analyzing James's power.
"Scanning complete," Cefie reported. "Swamp Purger exhibits both defensive and offensive capabilities. However, this transformation remains incomplete, leaving us with an 80% probability of success." Cefie seemed unperturbed and even appeared to relish the challenge.

Mianne was trapped in the Arcane Sanctum, struggling to yell insults at her kidnapper as a piece of cloth gagged her.
The mysterious voice taunted her, promising to talk. "Alright, I'm just gonna..."
Sinnodal, the goat demon, emerged from the shadows and removed the cloth from her mouth, albeit cautiously to avoid her biting his hand.
"Damn, you've got quite the bite for a church girl," Sinnodal remarked, taking a seat to converse with Mianne without looming over her.
He hoped she would refrain from insulting his entire race yet again.
Mianne, however, couldn't resist the urge to unleash her frustrations. "I knew it! You demons are always sly bastards!"
Sinnodal sighed. "Can you please, just for a moment, not insult my entire race?"
Mianne wasn't about to let up. "Be glad I don't tear you to shreds, boss's orders, of course!"
Sinnodal lit a cigarette, taking a moment to collect himself. "For Lucia's hell..."
"You demons are all the same, full of malice and bloodlust." Mianne continued her tirade, her insults growing louder.
Sinnodal covered his ears in exasperation. "Alright, let's get to business. All I want is that moon charm and..." Sinnodal reached into his suit pocket, grabbing out Dyssoarth, who squirmed in Sinnodal's grasp. "This little friend of yours." Mianne stared at Sinnodal, her anger undiminished.
Sinnodal sighed, realizing that reasoning with Mianne might be more challenging than he thought. Dyssoarth was struggling in his grasp, clearly agitated by the situation.
"Mianne, you can call me whatever you want, but let's be practical here," Sinnodal said, trying to strike a more diplomatic tone. "We want the moon charm and the dragon for a certain purpose. It's nothing personal."
Mianne glared at Sinnodal, her eyes filled with defiance. "I won't hand them over to the likes of you! You can do whatever you want to me, but I won't betray my friends."
Sinnodal chuckled, though it lacked the malice Mianne might have expected.
"You've got spirit, I'll give you that. But understand this, girl. If you refuse to cooperate, things can get much worse for you and your friends. We're not the only ones interested in that charm and the dragon. There are forces out there you wouldn't want to cross." Mianne's determination wavered for a moment as she considered Sinnodal's words.
She knew she couldn't let those who cared about her suffer because of her stubbornness. Yet, betraying her friends wasn't an option either.
Sinnodal continued, "I can make you a deal. You hand over the charm and the dragon, and I'll personally ensure your safety. You won't be harmed, and your friends will be spared as well. Think about it, Mianne."
Mianne remained silent, torn between her loyalty to her friends and the desire to keep them safe from harm.
In the heat of the moment, Dyssoarth let out a burst of fire breath into Sinnodal's face. Panicking, Sinnodal released his grip on the dragon, and Dyssoarth rolled next to Mianne.
With newfound determination, Dyssoarth began nibbling on the ropes that bound Mianne until she managed to break free.
Sinnodal, now recovering from the fiery surprise, turned his attention back to them, only to see that they were no longer restrained.
"Damn you!" Sinnodal yelled, but before he could react further, Mianne's guardian lunged at him, stabbing him with her lance.
Though the attack didn't do significant damage, it sent him stumbling backward toward a towering bookshelf.
The bookshelf teetered dangerously before collapsing on top of Sinnodal.
Mianne and Dyssoarth wasted no time. "Dyssoarth, let's run for it!" Mianne shouted, and the dragon swiftly climbed onto her shoulder, ready to flee.
However, as they approached the door, it was suddenly blocked by a lone Glacial Vigorous mage.
The mage produced something from her pocket—a purple cartridge—and pressed the button on the front.
"CRYSTALIZED TRIO!" A blade popped out, and she stabbed herself with it, screaming in pain.
Unbeknownst to her, three crystal princesses emerged from the cartridge, beating her mercilessly.
Then, they merged with the mage, transforming into a monstrous, devil-horned creature with hollow eyes that seemed to pierce into Mianne's very soul.
The beast let out a terrifying roar, sliding toward her menacingly, despite appearing to lack any visible legs.
"Fine, have it your way. Don't say I didn't warn you," Sinnodal grumbled as he hoisted the bookshelf that had landed on him.
With surprising strength, he hurled it straight at Mianne's guardian. However, the guardian, demonstrating remarkable agility, leaped into the air to evade the incoming bookshelf.
But Sinnodal's intention wasn't solely to target the guardian; it was also headed for Mianne.
