"Eight Gates: Gate of Opening... Open!"
"Eight Gates: Gate of Rest... Open!"
Might Duy had been training in the Eight Gates for years, so opening two gates simultaneously was effortless.
Although he showed no visible changes on the surface, both Asuma's combat power detector and the scroll in Guy's hand displayed a massive surge of chakra starting from his head meridians, with the combat power value skyrocketing.
"Wow, amazing! His combat power exceeded ten Obitos, twelve, thirteen... and it's still rising!"
Asuma began explaining.
Obito: "Please don't use me as a unit of combat power!"
At this point, Natsuhiko provided timely commentary:
"Everyone, take a look. Mr. Duy first opens the 'Gate of Opening' to lift the brain's limits, gaining complete control over his body, allowing him to overextend energy consumption to boost strength and speed."
"Then the 'Gate of Rest' lifts the fatigue limit, squeezing the body to quickly recover stamina, preparing for the full Eight Gates state."
"Mr. Duy, you can continue the demonstration."
Might Duy spoke up:
"It might get a bit dangerous next; please step back a little."
Although everyone was puzzled, they obediently stepped back a few steps.
Seeing this, Might Duy nodded and then thrust his hands downward, shouting:
"Eight Gates: Gate of Life... Open!"
Instantly, his skin turned red, and a green chakra aura burst from his body, causing his hair to fly wildly.
Beep, beep, beep...
"Hey, hey, hey? His combat power just broke a thousand, 1100, 1200..."
Asuma exclaimed while holding the detector, "Guy, are you sure your dad is just an ordinary Genin?"
At this point, Guy was also watching in shock, his hands trembling as he held the scroll.
The stark contrast between his dad's usual demeanour and current state left him momentarily speechless.
Natsuhiko continued to explain:
"By opening the third gate, the 'Gate of Life,' the body starts generating a large amount of chakra, greatly enhancing speed and strength."
"You can see the green chakra on Mr. Duy's body. That's the chakra escaping from his meridians because they can't contain it."
"It's not hard to imagine how much chakra flows through his meridians now."
"Wow!"
The students exclaimed in awe, though they didn't fully understand.
Natsuhiko added:
"The subsequent gates essentially follow the same principle as the 'Gate of Life,' lifting more restrictions and increasing chakra flow for a short burst of immense power."
"However, unavoidable physical damage begins from the fourth gate, so we'll stop the demonstration here."
Natsuhiko then turned to Might Duy.
"Mr. Duy, you can stop now."
However, Might Duy seemed not to hear, shouting again.
"Eight Gates: Gate of Pain... Open!"
"Eight Gates: Gate of Limit... Open!"
Natsuhiko: "???"
Boom! Boom!
Two shockwaves erupted from Might Duy, knocking the students off their feet.
The tangible chakra aura enveloped him, his face growing more fierce.
Beep, beep, beep...
Sitting on the ground, Asuma looked at the combat power detector, stunned.
"It's already over a thousand, 1800, 2500, 3200—how is this possible? It's still rising!!"
"How many Obitos can this fight now? This isn't ordinary Genin strength!"
Is this the legendary super Genin?!
Guy, also on the ground, looked at his father with tears streaming down.
Though he deeply respected his father and followed his training advice, he harboured some doubts.
After all, his father was often mocked as a perpetual Genin.
Instead of being discouraged, he worked even harder to prove his father wasn't wrong and to keep his father's passionate spirit alive.
Now, he realised his father's youth had already flourished, needing no protection from him.
A mix of shame and joy made Guy cry even harder.
Blocking the intense wind pressure, Natsuhiko raised his voice to Might Duy:
"Mr. Duy, that's enough for the demonstration..."
Might Duy turned, his face like a red demon's, yet smiling warmly:
"Mr. Natsuhiko, I understand why you had me demonstrate this."
"Though it's insignificant, let everyone see that even a perpetual Genin like me can achieve near-Jonin strength with almost twenty years of effort!!"
Natsuhiko: "???"
Though you're right, isn't your self-assessment a bit odd?
Before Natsuhiko could speak, Might Duy crossed his arms in front...
"Eight Gates: Gate of View... Open!"
The next moment, screams filled the training field as Asuma was blown away...
…
Moments later, on a bench beside the training field.
Kushina, applying a band-aid to Asuma's eye corner, grumbled:
"It's just a scratch. Why did you scream like that?"
Asuma, embarrassed, muttered: Try it yourself next time, and see how you react when something explodes in your face.
Natsuhiko looked at the wrecked combat power detector, not far away, speechless.
Meanwhile, Might Duy and Guy, back to normal, repeatedly bowed in apology.
"Mr. Natsuhiko, I'm sorry for damaging your expensive machine!"
Biting his lip, he added, "I'll compensate with my body!"
"I'll use my waiter salary to repay this debt until it's paid off. Is that acceptable?"
Natsuhiko waved his hand, saying, "Actually, the key parts are undamaged. We just need a few connector replacements, and it's not worth much."
"More importantly, Mr. Duy, you should realise now that you're quite strong."
"After all, my machine can withstand Kage-level chakra amounts."
Hearing this, Might Duy straightened up, looking at his hands, and chuckled bitterly.
"It still doesn't feel real."
"Honestly, saying I can momentarily reach near-Jonin strength was just boasting; I felt a bit embarrassed, Mr. Natsuhiko, didn't you see?"
No one could tell!
Guy, surprised, asked, "Teacher, did my dad become stronger than the Hokage with just six gates?"
"Not exactly," Natsuhiko smiled.
"As I said, at the Kage level, combat power is just one factor in determining victory."
"Honestly, against a cunning... experienced ninja like the Third Hokage, even with Eight Gates fully open, he'd eventually be outlasted if Mr. Duy couldn't defeat him in a surprise attack."
Natsuhiko wasn't flattering the Third Hokage.
The Eight Gates' power depends on the user.
Duy's performance was far from Guy's future Eight Gates, not reaching the overwhelming Kage level.
Indeed, people differ.
Might Duy's Eight Gates and Guy's Eight Gates differed even between father and son.
"Guy, you idiot!" Might Duy suddenly punch Guy away?
"Dad, what did I do wrong?" Guy, sitting up and clutching his face, asked in confusion.
Might Duy, heartbroken, said:
"Guy, how many times have I told you!"
"True victory isn't about defeating the strong, but protecting what's most important!"
"Dad, I'm sorry... I was just happy your efforts weren't in vain..."
Guy cried, sniffling.
"Idiot..." Might Duy also teared up, "Effort never betrays us; saying otherwise is an insult to hard work..."
"And even if I didn't get stronger, as long as you keep running on the path of youth, my efforts won't be wasted!"
"Dad!"
"Guy!"
Natsuhiko quietly left, hearing Might's father and son's tearful embrace.
Indeed, the Eight Gates technique suits only such passionate fools.
It's not for him...
