Just as things begin to settle, Zayn's phone lights up on the table between us. I glance down and freeze. Lana's name is saved with a heart emoji next to it.
I feel something snap inside me, the shock quickly giving way to a fury that I can't hold back.
"A heart emoji? Since when?"
I say, my voice laced with disbelief, my anger barely contained.
"Are you serious, Zayn?"
He looks at his phone, clearly caught off guard, then back at me.
"Kattie, it's not what you think—"
"Oh, it's not what I think?"
I cut him off, my voice rising.
"Then please, enlighten me, Zayn! Because from where I'm sitting, it looks exactly like what I think it is."
"Kattie, calm down."
He says, putting his hands up as if to defuse the situation.
"Don't you dare tell me to calm down!"
I snap, my voice breaking as the anger and betrayal swirl together.
