"Home run!"
The Player who had come specially to visit Seidou High School's baseball team practice exclaimed emotionally.
Watching the Koshien tournament videos before, it felt as simple as eating and drinking for Sawamura Eijun to hit a home run.
Not to mention the presence Sawamura Eijun displayed on the pitcher's mound during the summer Koshien just attended by Seidou High School.
He alone hit a whopping five home runs. This record, not to mention he was a freshman, even if placed in the hundred-year history of Koshien, comparing him with all high school students, Sawamura Eijun's data could still rank in the top three.
A powerful slugger!
He stood there like a living legend. Records that others had painstakingly created seemed like child's play to him, easily broken.
How could such a person not evoke admiration from an aspiring player like him?
'If I could stay by his side to play baseball, it would surely be a positive thing for my level to improve.'
This what the pitcher, who was the runner-up pitcher in the Little League World Series, was thinking.
And to some extent, his reasoning was not wrong.
When you work with people who have more talent and/or experience, you will get to learn a lot of new things. You will improve passively even without trying if you just want to keep up with them.
The biggest down side is of course the scarce opportunities that you will have to fight for with many others.
"Hehe!"
Sawamura chuckled in mischief, letting go of the bat in his hand and coolly trotting all the way, from first base, second base, third base, back to home plate.
While he looked cool as if it was a normal thing, looking closely, you will see Sawamura-Smug-face™ clearly on his face.
'IT WORKED!!! IT ACUALLY WORKED!!! WAAHAHAHA!! DID YOU SEE THAT! IT WAS SOO COOOL!'
He was really excited on the inside.
The score became 4:2.
When he returned to home plate, he heard Chris ask him softly.
"How did you guess that the last pitch would be high and inside?"
Sawamura's swing just now clearly aimed to hit.
"Shisho, you all know me well, and Of course, I know you guys too, right? And I too want to win!"
Sawamura smiled brightly.
However, Chris always felt that something was not quite right.
President Ota, who was watching excitedly, rubbed his hands together. "As expected of our team's Ace, truly remarkable."
"He must have guessed Chris's game calling."
Takashima Rei adjusted her glasses and said thoughtfully.
Next to her, Coach Ochiai was pinching his goatee and shook his head slightly.
"I don't think so."
"You don't, Coach Ochiai?"
"Well, from my perspective, Sawamura Eijun isn't such a player. To guess the catcher's pitch, even an ordinary catcher requires a lot of information as support. At the same time, we also need to consider the battery previous performance, and the pitcher's situation, many other variables. And Sawamura is not that type of player."
Takashima Rei and Ota both thought this should be true.
While Sawamura can play cleverly on the field, but it was not the intelligent type of cleverness but more like the experience type.
But when it came to the thing that require more brain, he have not shown much on that front.
And from the previous performance, Sawamura is clearly not the type batter who guess the game calling of the opponent.
"So how did he guess that ball?"
"It's probably the result of reverse reasoning."
'Reverse reasoning?'
President Ota and Takashima obviously are not familiar with this term, looking at Ochiai in confusion.
Seeing their confusion, Ochiai explained to the two of them.
"Did you play those mazes when you were young? The one where you have to find the right start point to reach the end?"
"Many times, you feel like you can't get the real answer, right? Then you try the other way, that is, going in through the exit, and then coming out through the right entrance. And find it is much easier this way. This is the Reverse reasoning..."
"The so-called reverse reasoning, that is, reverses thinking. To put it simply, it means knowing the result and revers the process back to the beginning. Knowing the full process requires strong logical reasoning ability to deduce the conclusion. But based on the result, it is relatively easier to deduce the process."
"Not every outstanding batter in professional baseball has a particularly good brain. If they want to hit the ball accurately, they must not only rely on their own intuition but also master some specific skills. For example, reverse reasoning is one of the more typical ones. I had some doubts before that Sawamura would have such method. After all, his swing is not particularly advantageous compared to other batters, but his hitting rate is higher than the normal, which is very unreasonable."
Takashima and Ota understood what Ochiai was saying.
It must be said that Coach Ochiai, who has been a baseball coach for 20 years, has a very professional knowledge.
He guessed it right!
What Sawamura used was indeed the result of reverse reasoning.
He didn't think about what kind of ball Chris would ask for, but rather what kind of ball he was most likely to be solved with.
It's his own blind spot!
After returning to his normal hitting stance, Sawamura immediately realized where his blind spot was.
That's the high inside corner!
He trusted Chris very much, so in the final ball, Chris would definitely call for the high inside corner.
On the other hand, Miyuki, that guy's ball was black hearted and very difficult to guess.
However, according to Chris, as long as you have a blind spot or weakness, he will do his best to hit you there.
Because doing so is the safest, most secure, and most likely to succeed.
Navigating through all the complicated paths, and finding the shortcut to final victory.
This is Chris's Game calling!
It may seems simple, but it actually the hardest thing a catcher can do. As it require a lot of knowledge about baseball, the game, the batters, the opponent team, the pitcher, the fielders, and many other variables.
Not just that, you have to be able to get more information on the fleet of the moment, which require as much efforts as the previous for you are refreshing the database in your mind every second.
And in the end, the catcher have to process all of that and find the best way to solve the opponent with the least efforts, and keep in mind the next steps in the game that follows the current moment.
So only a beyonder genius will attempt such a 'simple' and 'straightforward' approach.
And Swamura used an easy and tried method to counter all of that...
