Chapter 18 - Good or Bad News?

Sidius was expecting ancient dragons to bless him or some heaven defying phenomenon to occur but there was nothing.

'Either the novels i read back on earth are not real or I'm not the protagonist here.'

"Well, that's boring," he added before leaving the altar.

All eyes were on him as he stepped out, including Amelia's curious gaze. Sidius nonchalantly shrugged off the attention and returned to his previous spot, acting as if he hadn't noticed the stares.

He looked up at the sky and mumbled, 'The weather today is nice.'

Moments later, the other students also finished acquiring their classes. Amelia carefully put back the pass cards in the crystal box.

"Now that you have all pick your classes, head to the training room and practice your class in the simulation. One week from now, we will have a group match," the professor announced as she took out a mini book. "This book will further explain the different classes and their significance. I will let Vanessa distribute it. That will be all for today, class dismissed," she said, before leaving the premise.

'Since there are no classes for a week, I might as well explore the academy and scout any potential subordinates... or not. Nevermind, these students will probably just ignore me,' Sidius mused to himself.

With that thought in mind, he decided to make his way to Miss Morningsnow's office.

Upon arriving at the hallway, he noticed Vanessa stepping out from the door of Amelia's office Their eyes met and Vanessa seemed to want to say something.

"M-miss Morningsnow is a good person, s-so she will not confiscate your simulation capsule," she stammered while lowering her head, then quickly walked away without waiting for his reply, leaving Sidius feeling slightly puzzled by her unexpected remark.

Sidius just nodded and smiled as he stared at the departing lady, but that moment of tranquility did not last long.

He realized that Vanessa was just concerned about yesterday's incident. She also had an experience of being an outcast in the past due to her being an illegitimate child of the head of a diamond-ranked guild Laughingroar.

'Thinking about it, It's only natural for her to have a feeling of empathy,' Sidius convinced himself.

Before Sidius could knock the door, Amelia's voice said 'come in', signaling that she had noticed his presence outside the office.

Entering cautiously, Sidius saw her sitting in the chair, seemingly waiting for him to say something.

He took a seat in front of her table and carefully placed two magic plates from his pocket onto the surface, along with a piece of paper containing basic information about these magic plates.

"What do you think about this?" he asked with glimmer of anticipation in his eyes.

Browsing through the paper he gave her, Amelia's expression turned from curiosity to surprise.

Magic plates were a groundbreaking concept— the simplified version of complex magic spells. Furthermore as a mage, Amelia must have been amazed by his invention.

To create these simplified versions, one needed to comprehend the overall principles of the magic spells and it is not an easy thing to accomplish.

"Genius! This is amazing!"

"So that's why you chose a mage class, huh?" she exclaimed, her eyes shining with admiration. "How did you come up with this?" she asked, genuinely curious.

"It doesn't matter," Sidius answered dismissively. "Use one for yourself to see."

"I don't need to, I trust you. Besides, you must have really tired yourself out working on this."

Amelia responded, her eyes still fixed on the magic plates with a mix of wonder and awe.

Yet, Sidius misunderstood her words.

'You still don't trust me, do you? It's only logical that I wouldn't present a fake, especially considering my sister's life is at stake.'

On the other hand, Amelia was genuinely impressed by Sidius's talents and abilities that continued to astound her one after another. She felt reassured that he could indeed save Amber, her little sister.

"That will be our business to gather resources. Do you think you can make a company?" he asked her again. "Also, apply for a patent for it. I'll send you the files through email."

"That's easy. I have a good friend who works at the Golden Frog Merchant. She can help us launch the artificial artifact to prevent any potential troubles," she said with a confident smile.

"Thank you."

But in the midst of their happy conversation, Amelia's smile faded, and her expression turned serious.

"By the way, Sidius, I have good news and bad news. Which one do you want to hear first?"

"The bad news," Sidius responded.

"Alright, the good news is I know the whereabouts of the elixir of life," she said, smiling even more brightly than before.

'What's the point of asking me if you're going to follow what you think?' Sidius said wearing a wry smile as he thought to himself, 'Women are so difficult to read.'

"The bad news is that it appears in an A ranked dungeon called Dragon Tomb. With your pathetic rank, someone will most likely get that elixir before you. Also, another elixir will be auctioned on the black market in a month." Amelia revealed as he leaned back in her chair.

Sidius sighed, knowing the situation was not in his favor. In the end, it was his strength that was the problem. He set the matter aside and just focus on more immediate matter.

"Negotiate with your good friend as soon as possible," he requested, trying to sound optimistic, "and... do you have 70,000 star coins? I will pay you back in a week," he shamelessly asked. He was really broke right now.

Hearing Sidius, Amelia's lips curved into a sly smile.

"Okay, give me your account and phone number," she said, lifting her arm with an open palm. "I'm charging you 30% interest."

"Thirty percent!? You're a tough business partner," Sidius exclaimed, taken aback by the steep interest rate.

"Okay, 35% interest."

She countered playfully, clearly enjoying the negotiation.

"What!? Why is it going up!?"

"40%—"

"Stop! Stop! It's a deal!"

Sidius interrupted, afraid that the interest would jump even higher. He just wryly smiled and gave Amelia his contacts, realizing that arguing with her was useless.
