"Poison? Is that the best you can come up with to push the blame onto someone else?" Margaret snapped back.
Maddison grinned as she watched her in silence. The longer the silence went on, the more Margaret began to panic. She looked flustered by Maddison's silence, no doubt wondering if she was bluffing or did the younger woman knew something about what she had done.
"If you have proof then show it, you coward!" Margaret yelled, trying to get Maddison to act out of line.
Elias placed his hand gently on Maddison's. She was hiding her curled fist under the table. She clutched her knuckle so tightly that it was white. Having him by her side gave her the sense of calm she needed to continue.
