Multiple sparks and small-time explosions conquered the night. Kanaru and Voshiem stopped at a hilltop, seeing a siege carried out in the secret lair. With all those flags waving, Kanaru figured it was an assault prepared by some lesser countries. Even if he didn't see Markovan's flag, he had a feeling Yulchik was making Fenris owe him something… or paying for putting him in harm's way.
It felt wrong… but Kanaru couldn't be caught fighting soldiers to protect Adeen and his siblings. He could only turn away and run off some more. However, he suddenly activated his steel gauntlet to catch an attack in the dark.
By then, Voshiem had turned toward Kanaru, catching a glimpse of that white bone hand. However, he only faced their direction without saying anything.
