With the emergence of powerful beasts among the humans, the monsters started to flee. Due to the damage to the city, the knights didn't set out to wipe them out for now. The soldiers were all called back to the castle, but most of them looked around for survivors and the injured along the way. The queen and king had to run to the gates to look for their three sons.
Sir Heinz returned to his human form, his armor responding to the change in his body structure. He then sheathed his sword and looked in a direction. From the piles of dead monsters formed two silhouettes. Soon, he saw how Covey dragged his body through the path, with Kanaru hanging from his shoulder. Gannett was managing on his own, but he was also visibly injured.
"Covey! Gannett! Kanaru!" The queen gasped and didn't run toward them. She was more concerned with pushing servants to get people to patch up her children. All three of them were seriously wounded from fighting the giant. It didn't matter if they were not the ones who killed it.
"Your Highnesses!" The knight commander called out and went to help Covey in carrying Kanaru. "Your Highnesses, are you in pain? Should we rush you to the castle's infirmary?"
Covey glanced at Kanaru, who was only keeping to himself. He turned to Gannett, who avoided his gaze. Then, the first prince smiled at the commander. "We're tougher than we look. We're not bleeding anymore, so I don't think we need something urgent. How are the soldiers and the people? They might use the attention more than us."
When they reached the gates, Kanaru decided to stand on his own. Even if his wing was broken and in massive pain, he didn't want to look pitiful in front of his brothers and his parents. The ambassadors were also there, along with the Black Smoke Corps. He just smiled through the radiating feeling, trying to look okay when his brothers looked nothing worse.
The queen went to hug Covey first before Gannett. "You three, how could you make me worry so much? Fighting a giant with just yourselves? Please don't do that again…"
"We're sorry, Mother. We had no choice but to defend the country as its princes." Covey only chuckled as he watched her glare at him. She then clung to Kanaru, the first prince only keeping his apologetic smile on his face.
"You're the worst, Kanaru. You started it." The queen would pinch her son, but she felt Kanaru trembling under her hug. Her eyes spied on how the limb holding Kanaru's right wing seemed swollen. The line it drew had an extra angle. That was how she realized that his wing was broken. "Baby, your wing…"
She would react in horror, but she saw a more horrifying thing coming from the same direction her children trod to get to her. A scream escaped her, and she couldn't help but step back into her husband's arms. The soldiers grew apprehensive, as well as the three princes. Kanaru was the only one who didn't spin, lest he would show his broken wing to the people.
It was just that Rodnir was only swiping his hands to get rid of the chunks of meat on him as he walked to the people. From head to toe, he was covered in rich yet darkening blood. His red eyes were the only things clearly visible to the people who saw him from the gates.
Sir Heinz would approach, but before he could even take a step, he saw how Kanaru ran to the king's ward. Using the edge of the torn dress, Kanaru hurriedly wiped Rodnir's face. He was even heard babbling in worry because of all the blood.
"Rodnir! What happened to you? Why are you—? Here, I'll clean you." Kanaru couldn't help but clear the blood off Rodnir's face. "That blood didn't seem to be yours, but were you hurt? Did the cuts heal already? Where were you injured?"
"You talk about my injuries when I see your wing hanging differently. Don't worry, I'll help you." Rodnir would laugh at the reaction, but he noticed how the other wing lifelessly swung at Kanaru's movements. He wrapped his arms around Kanaru's shoulders, holding the bone that broke.
Kanaru grasped at Rodnir's chest in pain, but he didn't want to scream. He only closed his eyes as Rodnir pressed a thumb on the open fracture. However, they all saw how Rodnir's hand lit up to heal the injury on the wing. That was the only time they realized a unicorn had come to their small kingdom. No wonder why the ambassadors let him speak for them.
Soon enough, Kanaru felt how the pain subsided. He moved the wing and spread it as if it was unhurt from the very beginning. In excitement, he gasped and stepped back to spin with his wings spreading. "My wing! Look, Mother, it's fixed—! Rodnir!"
"I'm okay. Not your fault." Rodnir knew it. He already stepped back to avoid the wings, but Kanaru's wings were so huge at their full spread that the leading edge still whacked his head.
"I'm really very sorry!" Kanaru only chuckled as he apologized some more. He folded his wings again, continuing to examine the other person. "Covey told me you saved him. How did you stop that thing's foot? Didn't you get hurt by it?"
Rodnir only followed Kanaru's gaze with his. Everywhere Kanaru looked, there was blood. However, the clothes were otherwise free from any cuts. The unicorn didn't seem to be harmed aside from bathing in the gorilla's blood. Since the ground was full of it, Kanaru didn't question this anymore.
After realizing that everything was fine, Kanaru just took Rodnir's hands into his as he smiled. "You look fine just as you said, but your clothes would surely stink from the blood. It's also sticking to your hair. I know a good way to wash that off!"
"…hmm, let's find this place a little later. My knights will gut me if I leave without talking to them." Rodnir glanced at the captain, who crossed his arms on his chest. "Let us speak to the others now."
"…! Oh, you're right! We're talking for too long." Kanaru let Rodnir's hands slip off his before Kanaru rubbed his neck. He then stepped to the side to make way for him. "Uhm, you should lead the way, His Grace. I'll just be here… behind you."
Rodnir only gazed at Kanaru before vanishing his kind smile as he walked toward the people. With his face free from the blood, he looked a little more decent than earlier. "King Burdett, please attend to your people. The monsters have gone away, but you have much to rebuild. This place also looked like it would soon be overrun. Are you not thinking of moving?"
