Chapter 46 - A Small Miscalculation

'...Did I just get caught?'

For the next few moments, Damien stood in place like a stone statue, blankly staring back at Julia's frowning face with a sinking feeling in his chest.

'I...don't think she saw anything, though.'

Going by the expression she currently had on her face, it certainly didn't look like she had seen anything at all. Otherwise, his dear 'mother-in-law' definitely wouldn't be asking what he was up to in such a calm manner.

"Err..."

After that brief pause, Damien cracked an embarrassed smile on his face, swiftly concealing his surprise at her sudden appearance. 

"Nothing much, actually. Just taking in a few breaths of fresh air out here. I heard it's good for healing, apparently."

Fortunately, he had backed away from the abandoned playhouse earlier. Now, if she really didn't see what he did a few minutes ago, dodging it should be simple enough with a few words.

'Fresh air...?'
