National Intelligence Building.
Lee Jong-gi is a senior member of the NIS. He has been part of the investigative team at this institution for more than 10 years. Starting from being a street intelligence officer, to becoming a member of the National Threat Investigator, his job was to see several threats that would occur and prevent them so that the public did not need to know about them.
He also covered up a case by making up another case.
5 years ago, he and his team failed to prevent a case from being revealed to the public. They knew about a politician ordering teenage children for his political interests, but they did not expect that it was children from abroad.
Before he had time to find out where Park Suwon got the children, he suddenly heard that all TV stations already knew the news. Moreover, problematic journalists are always fighting with him indirectly.
Once he learned that Kang Soo-hee, Yang Tae-guk, and Lee Min-tae knew each other it was too late.
NIS was there when the accident happened, they saw 5 cars involved in a series of accidents, and he saw Soo-hee running to Prosecutor Lee's car while crying.
Since then, because Kang Soo-hee opened it to the public first, and destroyed the entire investigation, Lee Jong-gi and his team were disbanded, and replaced with another team, and he handled threats from abroad.
That's when he found out that Kang Soo-hee was not Kang Soo-hee. When Michael passed the immigration center, he immediately realized that Kang Soo-hee was not Kang Soo-hee.
Even though it was such a short time, he investigated everything. The relationship between Kang Soo-hee and the Kim Sok-ji case.
Kang Soo-hee with Jang Lay and also Seoul Central Hospital, Park Shin-jin, that's where he knew that Kang Soo-hee was Sunny Elise Kang who died 12 years ago. Just like his first job. His team was there when Michael blew up Jae-young's house and even when Michael and Soo-hee met at a building in Daegu.
He also heard what Jang Lay, Sok-ji, and Jin were arguing about in the hospital. That's when he prepared everything, even the evidence for the Kim Sang-ju case.
Knock... Knock...
"Come in..." answered the person from inside.
It was almost midnight and indeed the lights in all the corridors had turned off and only energy-saving lamps were left which were not very bright. Indeed, there were still several teams on guard, because the NIS was on guard for 24 hours.
Many agents work abroad with very large time differences, therefore someone still has to be on guard if they need assistance with extraction and so on.
The room said Security Director's office. The large room didn't even have bright lights on, only energy-saving yellow lights, supported by a table lamp.
Even so, there is still natural light from the street and bustle outside the window. Above the work desk, there is a clear nameplate that says. Lee Byung Ju is one of the Directors of Internal Security Intelligence.
He is the person who determines what kind of big cases the public should know about and which ones should not, sorting out threats that must be executed immediately or whether they still need time for investigation.
Their job is not to manipulate, but to sort out which ones are a threat, whether if this comes out it will not cause public debate. Does the public need to know about this? That's what they think.
However, sometimes they also became political tools of the rulers at that time.
"Sorry I came so late," Jong-gi bowed his head deeply.
Yes, he's quite sorry. Jong-gi was supposed to submit a report as soon as possible after he met with the Special Team but because of the heated conditions, they had to change places while confirming Soo-hee's decision. So he left the house. He doesn't want to argue with all the members.
"It doesn't look like the results are good," he guessed.
"Sorry to make you wait so late, but I can't provide a concrete report yet. Everything is still in the negotiation stage."
"Kang Soo-hee doesn't want to go home?"
"Unfortunately, I think so. She seems to choose to protect her company."
"I understand. And the others?"
"Kim Sok-ji is still trying to persuade Kang Soo-hee in L.A. Meanwhile, the others are waiting for Kang Soo-hee's decision. But, I'm more afraid of Prosecutor Lee's decision."
"Prosecutor Lee? What's wrong with him?"
"Prosecutor Lee 5 years ago had a series of accidents, involving a car from DFK's team which was chasing Kang Soo-hee and a car belonging to Park Suwon's team, they met at an intersection and had a series of accidents."
"He was scared because of that?"
"He was with his fiancé who was pregnant and they had to lose the child."
"Ah. I understand. Then let me intervene."
"But sir, it's not good if you get involved."
"I won't meet them. Tomorrow I will meet someone to ask them to work."
"Do I need to know who it is?" Jong-gi asked.
"You'll find out later."
Knock... Knock...
"You waiting for someone?" Jong-gi is surprised to hear a knock on the door.
Director Lee also looked surprised because he didn't remember waiting for anyone other than Jong-gi. But he just shrugged his shoulders and told Jong-gi to calm down.
"Come in."
When the door opened it turned out to be Mido, one of Jong-gi's subordinates, one of the people who had been with him for a long time.
"Ah Sunbae, luckily you're right here. I think something happened."
He had a cell phone in his hand, the cell phone was on, even though from a distance Jong-gi could tell that it was a news broadcast. What was on his mind at that time was that the possibility of Sok-ji's arrival in L.A. had already been heard by the media, but he became even more suspicious when he saw it as if it was the latest coverage of dark circumstances.
Finally, Mido showed the cellphone screen to Jong-gi and Director Lee. "Kang Soo-hee's house burned down 10 minutes ago. Sunbae, aren't you from there? What about the other members? They came out with you?"
It was as if he was suffocating himself with his breath. Jong-gi was silent for a moment, they argued before he finally left the house, and if this happened it means it happened after he left.
"Have you contacted Prosecutor Lee?" Jong-gi asked.
"None of the three people answered."
"Call Jang Lay."
"Yes," Jong-gi took his cell phone and called Jang Lay.
"Yes, Agent Lee Jong-gi, can I help you?"
"Soo-hee's house what happened?"
"Ah, that... Don't worry, everyone is safe, can I ask for help?"
"What is it?"
"To make sure that The Police want to see her in person and can not be represented by her lawyer?"
From Lay's answer saying all the survivors were suspicious of Jong-gi, he looked at Director Lee and Mido alternately, he understood what Lay meant, and they did it on purpose. However, burning a house for the sake of public attention and a request to appear as a witness in person.
He couldn't imagine it now, what would happen, which side would get good or bad attention.
He couldn't assess at least not now. But there is one thing on his mind now, if Soo-hee does that, it means she agrees with what they are going to do, it means Soo-hee will go home.
"Does that mean she agrees?" Jong-gi tries to confirm his theory, whether it is true or not.
"I can't say that. But you have to ask them again tomorrow morning, ah it's tomorrow. I'll send you the address. Call Jae-young when you get to the front of the building."
"Okey, thanks, man."
"Hmm, you're welcome, and please don't call me again, I have to rest for an hour and I have to go."
Jong-gi turned off the connection and looked at the Director while nodding, even though he didn't smile at least he could breathe a sigh of relief that one problem was finally resolved. Kang Soo-hee returns to Seoul.
"They seemed to have agreed and the house fire, Jang Lay asked me to make sure the police called Kang Soo-hee in person," explained Jong-gi.
"Let me take care of that, you guys rest first."
"I have to go to the new building, they asked me to come there."
"Be assured that they will work together, the sooner the better, the mayoral election will be held soon."
"Yes sir."
