"Before your father died, he put you in some orphanage for you to grow up as a normal kid, but you ran away two days after his death."
"How was I supposed to pay my final respect to him if I was trapped in there?" I yelled.
"To pay your final respects," she laughed. "You are as ignorant and stupid as your father was. If only he agreed, let us save his life. He didn't even bring you to the academy."
I was beginning to lose my temper.
"Look, lady, I don't know who you are, but if you say one more thing about my father,"
"Don't worry, I'm not here to play either," she said with a more serious look. "So why did you go back to the house?"
"That's my father's house, so now that he's dead, it's mine. So I will keep on living there."
"According to the ASE law by the council of the twelve sages, You have to be at least sixteen to own a house. And you're eight."
"So?" I asked.
"You can't live there," she stated with authority.
"What??" I yelled. "It's just eight years left; can't I just stay there for a while longer?"
"We would have let you stay if there was an older member of your family living with you."
She stood up and walked to the door.
"I can help you, but you have to enroll at the academy first. We'll contact you when we are ready to see you, but for now, we'll let you go," she said as she walked out of the room.
I was later released and returned home. Since it was Saturday, I decided to go to the workshop where I work as an assistant.
"Henry, you are late again," Mr. John said. Mr. John was my boss at work; he was the only person who hired me when others rejected me. He owns a workshop in the city where he repairs and sells vehicles. He often compliments me on my work and gives me some money, but I only go during the weekends and holidays.
"I'm sorry, sir. I got caught up in something yesterday," I said.
"That's what you say every time you come late," he laughed. Although he was a little plump, based on what he said, his muscles made him look well-built. I guessed it's because of all the lifting he does around the shop. "You know you can talk to me about anything."
I wanted to tell him what happened but decided not to get him involved with it. He was a human, after all.
"It's nothing serious; I can handle it," I said.
"Of course, you can; you're just eight, and you're already earning a living. Some people might call this child abuse," he said. He has always been worried about what people will say about me working with him.
"I wanted the job, and you gave it to me, and it's not like you're forcing me to carry heavy stuff or something against my will." I smiled and flexed my muscles continuously. "Besides, I'm supernatural; believe it or not, one day someone will come to take me, and I'll have to protect you and others from demons. I consider this training."
Tears flowed down his cheeks; he wiped them with his sleeve and patted me gently on the shoulder.
"You're a strong kid, Henry. So, don't die for nothing. Now, get back to work."
"Yes sir"
After hours of work, I went home with seventy dollars, enough to take me about a week or so. My boss said I should rest on Sunday, so I had nothing to do. I was worried about what that lady said and May's whereabouts, so I strolled around the city and finally stopped at the park.
As always, the park was peaceful, the perfect place to clear your mind and look at hot girls. I stayed till it was dark before deciding to go home. Maybe I can meet May. According to the family, she didn't come home, and when they saw her, she ran away. She was now a demon; someone could see her and try to kill her, so I needed to find her fast. Besides, I never got the chance to tell her about my feelings.
I walked slowly home; hopefully, I can meet her. I sensed that something was following me, but I couldn't predict what. For all I know, it could be the academy trying to keep an eye on me. I can't let them see May, so I started running. I was running straight home.
After the park, there were some buildings, then nothing but a clear road leading to the next town. Luckily for me, after the buildings, the person won't be able to follow me if he wants to stay hidden.
I kept running, just a few meters from the end. Something jumped from the bush, blocking my path. It was May.
She walked to me as I moved back gently. I didn't know what to do; I guess I didn't think it through. She ran to me. I was scared; I couldn't move. Then suddenly, she fell, so I walked to her to check. It turns out she was sleeping; I guessed she was tired. So, I carried her home; she was lighter than she looked.
I ate the hamburger I bought from a fast-food restaurant. I had to manage until I got my pay, so I would only buy something when I needed it. I walked to my bedroom, where I kept May. She was peacefully sleeping on my bed, so I decided to sleep on the couch tonight. I took one of the pillows, left the blanket for her, and went to the sitting room and slept.
It has been two weeks since May was sleeping, and she has not woken up. The school has gone on holiday, so I will spend more time at the workshop.
I came back with my pay that day; it was two hundred dollars. I decided to use all of it to buy some food since Mr. John said he was going to sponsor my education. I did buy a lot of stuff, but I kept some money in case of emergencies.
I went back home to check on May. She was still sleeping; at this point, I didn't know what to do. Is she going to remain like this? What if she suddenly wakes up one night and eats me? I held her hand and looked at her face.
She looked more beautiful than when she was human. Her short black hair had grown to her waist, her red eyes were brighter, and her body was sexier and lighter. For some reason, I liked her better.
I don't know what got into me; I kissed her. She immediately woke up and jumped out of the bed.
