Nate followed Gwen out of the cabin, with the others close behind. The dandelion field she knew of was their next destination. Though he wanted to tell Gwen to return to campus for her safety, Nate knew that suggestion wouldn't end well for him. Keeping her within sight also had its advantages.
Quickening his pace to fall in step beside her, Nate asked, "Are you sure you're alright?" He still wasn't convinced she had been completely unharmed during her kidnapping.
"Yes, harming me doesn't appear to be the demon's goal," Gwen mused, her thoughts racing.
"Well, whatever the demon's goal is, we'll give them a good beatdown!" Rob chimed in, grinning at Nate's concerned expression.
Selene, noticing everyone easing up after their first successful rescue, scowled. "Don't become complacent. We're up against a high-ranking demon. Even if we fought together in direct combat, we'd lose hands down."
Her declaration silenced the group as they absorbed her words.
