Kai stared blankly at Yelena for a few seconds, wondering to himself whether she was serious or not. It was only after she continued to stare at him while not even cracking a smile that he realised that she was indeed serious.
"Seriously? Is it it really that bad?"
Yelena shook her head softly, a small smile forming on her face.
"It's not that it's bad, it is just that you would stand out. If you wish to stand out then I can't force you to change, but I just thought that you would rather remain inconspicuous."
She was right.
Kai would much rather not be the centre of attention for a bunch of people that he didn't know, inside a city that he didn't know, inside a Subdimension that he didn't know.
So, with a sigh, he accepted her proposal.
"Alright, what should I wear?"
Yelena's smile widened as she walked through one of the doors that connected with the washroom.
"Just give me a moment, I'll give you a choice."
Kai waited patiently in the washroom for about a minute, tapping his foot to the tune that Yelena had been humming the whole time they went around collecting clothes.
When Yelena returned, she was holding two different outfits in her hands.
One was an extremely basic set of trousers, a shirt and a strange vest to wear over the shirt.
The other outfit was a little bit posher, consisting of just a slightly nicer pair of trousers and a slightly nicer shirt.
But to Kai, they were basically the exact same, either would be fine.
"So, which one would you like?"
Kai simply shrugged, they both basically looked the exact same. However, if he was going to he going out in the cold while it was snowing, then he would rather have the option with more clothing.
"The first one." Kai said as he took the outfit with the vest from Yelena. Still, a moment later he asked:
"Do you have a coat or anything I can put over this? I don't know how cold it's going to be outside."
Yelena stared blankly at Kai for a few seconds, wondering how she had forgotten the most important item of clothing for a place like this.
"Of course, forgive me, the thought slipped my mind."
With that, she went back into the other room and emerged a few seconds later with a brown coat in her arms.
"Here you go, Sir Kai."
Kai smiled as he gratefully accepted the coat. However, he looked at Yelena, waiting for her to catch onto what he wanted.
She never did, she just continued to blissfully look at him with that same smile on her face.
"Uh... do you mind going into the other room or something so I can change?"
A blush instantly formed on the green haired woman's attractive face. Noticing her mistake, she quickly bowed and retreated to the room next door to the washroom.
"Of course, Sir Kai, my apologies."
Once Yelena had quickly disappeared from his view, Kai changed into the clothes that he had been given. Once he was fully dressed, he turned to the mirror that was in the washroom and smiled.
Now he really looked like he fit in with the whole medieval vibe.
"Alright, I'm changed."
A few moments after hearing his voice, Yelena entered the washroom again, seemingly having composed herself as all traces of any previous blush had vanished.
Still, there was one part of Kai's outfit that he wasn't so sure about, so he decided to ask the maid anyway.
"What about my boots though? Do I have to change them too?"
Yelena glanced down at them before shaking her head with a soft smile.
"No, your boots are fine, they won't catch any attention."
Kai sighed softly, but accepted Yelena's words. He was quite fond of those boots, so it stung his soul a little to see them be put down like that.
"Okay then, so wher-"
It was then that Kai realised that he was still technically lost, just that he was lost on a different floor. There were three doors connecting to the washroom, bar the one leading to the one that Yelena had gotten the clothes from as that one obviously led to nowhere.
Deciding to take a gamble at potentially picking the right door, Kai chose one of the doors at random and held it open for Yelena.
"Ladies first."
Yelena covered her mouth as she laughed softly before shaking her head and opening a different door than the one Kai was beside.
"I appreciate the gesture, but that door only leads to the bathrooms."
Kai didn't even bother to look into the room that he had opened to confirm Yelena's words, he simply let go of the handle and allowed the door to swing shut.
Sighing, Kai adjusted his coat and followed the green haired maid through the door she opened, admiring the paintings on the walls.
The hallways and paintings were basically the exact same that they had been on the floor Kai was sleeping on, except for the fact that the paintings were a little more modest down here. A little less Castillian and a little more beautiful landscapes.
Kai made some small talk with Yelena as they walked. She mainly asked what the world Kai came from was like, so he just explained that there was no powers or anything like that.
Which actually shocked the maid quite a bit, she explained that while the average person here might not be the strongest, there were some talented individuals scattered around the place.
But the fact that there was no sort of magic or Mana had Yelena stumped, she kept questioning how they could travel if there was no teleporters or flight spells.
And to answer that, Kai explained what aeroplanes were, which only confused the poor maid more as what would be considered more confusing, someone who could fly using Mana or a piece of machinery that was created with various different materials that could somehow fly while being controlled by someone who wasn't actually a mage called a pilot?
And to answer that... Kai simply changed the subject.
Of course, that wasn't the only reason that he changed the subject, there was also the fact that the two of them had arrived at a gargantuan door, similar to the one that Kai saw when he was first summoned.
"Alright, here we are, this is the main entrance to the castle. It was nice walking with you, Sir Kai."
Kai grinned excitedly. The sensation of being outside was just on the other side of this door, a sensation that he had been wishing for for nearly half a year.
In fact, it was the idea of this that practically got himself through the white room.
He liked imagining things, different scenarios, how conversations could go if he said different things, little things like that. He had done it quite a lot before this whole mess began, so you can imagine how much more he imagined stuff after being alone 24/7.
One thing he did to pass the time was try to imagine things by memory. Something like a sunflower he could conjure up in his mind with no problem, but something like the shape of New Zealand was a little more complicated. He knew that there was two islands, but he had no idea what shape those two islands were.
But one thing that he imagined more than anything else was Christmas.
Kai was a huge Christmas person. Being with his family, watching Christmas movies, everything about the holiday was simply perfect, nothing could compare.
And a perfect Christmas always had the snow to match.
And there was going to be plenty of snow on the other side of these doors.
"Thanks, Yelena, I appreciate you helping me out."
Yelena smiled politely as she stared to turn around.
"Of course, Sir Kai, it was my honour to assist you."
She then flashed Kai one more smile before fully turning around to continue her day.
Meanwhile, Kai stared at the doors with a sort of melancholic look. To be honest, he wasn't really quite sure what to think. Technically, he had gotten what he wanted, but...
... What would it cost him?
Still, Kai had to shake his head as there was a more pressing matter at hand.
How was he meant to enjoy his time in the city if he didn't have any-
"Yelena, you wouldn't happen to have any spare change or something, would you? Just a small amount and I'll make sure to pay you back in the future."
Yelena stopped walking and turned back around to face Kai, a look of thought on her face.
"Well, I have a few errands that I have to run in the city. If you help me out with those, then I can treat you to something in one of the taverns."
Kai's grin grew even wider as he watched Yelena start walking back towards him.
"Deal." Kai said, but just as he was about to push open the door he spoke again.
"Do you not want a jacket or something though?"
Yelena shook her head dismissively.
"No, I'll be fine."
Kai's smile twitched slightly, it wasn't like the maid outfit she was wearing was made to be winter wear, her arms were exposed and the skirt of it only reached to around her knees.
Kai sighed softly and shook his head.
"Suit yourself then."
As soon as he closed his mouth, he was unable to wait any longer and pushed open the door of the castle and-
Was instantly hit by the cold breeze.
