As the expedition fleet ventured deeper, the storm clouds expanded rapidly, soon obscuring the sky above, and the crew began to notice changes in their surroundings.
A massive black volcano suddenly appeared on the horizon.
Thick black smoke billowed from the top of the volcano, clearly indicating it was still active.
This was the first time since arriving in the desert that the crew had discovered a landscape other than sand dunes.
After moving forward for another half hour, the fleet reached the base of the giant volcano. Looking up, the imposing black active volcano resembled a gigantic beast exhaling thick smoke.
At the foot of the mountain grew a forest of what appeared to be ivory-white 'stone'.
But as the fleet drew closer, it became clear that this was not a stone forest at all, but rather vast expanses of snow-white bones.
